How much solvent?

Hey everyone, after reading numerous teks i found that most of them use different ammounts of solvents for defatting and extraction and some dont tell you how much at all. I will probably be using ronsonol naptha for my extraction and i was wondering if theres any general rule for calculating how much solvent to use.

Im thinking of using turpentine and naptha quite liberally for defatting and then maybe a litre of naptha for extraction? Im new to this and i have no idea tho. Any sugestions?

How much are you extracting? A litre might be way too much, or way too little - depends on your amount of feedstock.

As far as SWIM knows defatting is purely optional with bark, especially if you go the A/B route. SWIM uses naphta too and heats the basified solution prior to pulling in a heat bath.

He used 250 ml on 250 grams powdered bark and got great results. He used 8 X 30 ml pulls but he still kept the basified solution for further pulls.

im going to be doing 1kg of acacia bark. Defatting is optional but i want to try an get my spice as pure as i can so i think its worth it. So 1ml of warm naptha to 1 gram of acacia bark sound about right?

The FAQ has info regarding pull size. If the specific acacia you are trying has plenty of dmt you can use similar amounts. Better use less naphtha and make more pulls, because then you can freeze precipitate straight away.

I would strongly advice against defatting. Its a horribly inneficient and wasteful process. You will need to waste hundreds of mls of solvent instead of just doing your normal A/B and later on re-crystallizing if necessary (and for recrystallizing you only need about 30ml per gram of impure product, muuuuuuch less)

Yeah i guess i can skip the defatting since its hard to find naptha in canada and it would save a lot of money buying lighter fluid. Anyways i dunno if im even going to go ahead with the extraction. I got Acacia confusa from psychoactiveherbs.com and i didnt do my homework. I thought it was inner root bark but i guess its only inner stem bark so im not too sure whether its even worth doing now.
