TL;DR: I have a glass jar of lime, sodium carbonate, freebase DMT, and acetone. Does my solution to extract make sense?
Ok, so here is where I think I am at now:

Here is how I got here: I was mostly following this Tek, but I am not sure if I did everything right.
1. So, first I boiled my shredded MHRB with vinegar and water.
2. I poured and filtered out the now red vinegar-water, and put it in a second pan to boil down.
3. I put more vinegar and water in the pan with the MHRB, and repeated step two.
4. I put the remaining MHRB from the first pan in a ziplock bag and put it in the freezer, just in case I ended up needing it.
5. So now I have a pan with a reduced mixture of vinegar-water, and whatever I was able to boil out of the MHRB. Hopefully this contains DMT-acetate.
This is what it looks like
6. I defatted the mixture a couple times with sunflower oil, by pouring the oil into the jar, mixing it up, then using a baster to take the oil back out.
6. I boiled down this mixture as much as I could, and then poured it onto a baking pan with Sodium Carbonate.
7. This mixture now looks really grey. It darkened up quite a bit, and reactions are definitely happening. I put this baking pan in the oven at 135 degrees fahrenheit for about 4 hours.
8. The next morning, the baking pan was completely dry. It was this hard, flaky, brown powder. I believe this powder to be mostly sodium carbonate with a bit of freebase DMT.
9. I took this powder and put it in a jar with a similar powder I had from a previous attempt, where I used lime instead.
10. I poured acetone into this jar and mixed it for a bit. So I now have this glass jar of lime, sodium carbonate, freebase DMT.
11. I poured the acetone, which was now a very cloudy, dirty brown, through a coffee filter onto a plate. I let this evaporate on the plate, and scraped up the dust that remained. It looked like this.
12. I tried to smoke this dust by mixing it with weed in my bong. It tasted terrible. I got really high. It was not a psychedelic kind of high, not a weed high, and made me very nauseous. It tasted terrible, and now my bong tastes and smells terrible. It’s a really unique smell, don't know if it is the smell of DMT.
13. I believe this dust I collected may still have a lot of base [lime or sodium carbonate] in it. It didn’t burn well at all. I poured the dust I that I evaporated back into the main jar [the one mentioned in step 10] that still has a lot of material in it,
14. I took just a bit of the cloudy brown acetone that was in the main container, and put it in a new jar with some vinegar. The hope was to extract the DMT from the acetone using this technique from a different guide. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize that acetone is miscible in water, and the solvent used in the tek I just linked is not. The tek uses D-Limonene, and the vinegar pulls the DMT acetate out of the limonene and can just be separated and evaporated. Instead, I am left simply with a plate full of vinegar, water, a bunch of gunk, and maybe DMT acetate. There are different layers to the liquid in this plate. This is what it looks like. I plan on taking this and just throwing it in with the MHRB next time I do a batch from scratch.
So here are the steps I think I should take moving forward:
I have D-Limonene coming in the mail in a month, so I think I am going to switch to using that.
1. Evaporate out all the acetone from the main jar.

2. Put D-Limonene in the Jar, swirl it around for a bit, pour out the D-Limonene through a filter into a new jar.
3. Let jar sit for a bit to let any sediments fall to the bottom.
4. Decant this jar of D-Limonene into a new jar, leaving sediments behind.
5. Pour vinegar into the D-Limonene, converting the DMT-freebase into DMT-acetate. Let D-Limonene and vinegar layers separate. DMT-acetate is not soluble in D-limonene, so it will fall into the vinegar layer.
6. Use turkey baster to remove vinegar layer
7. Evaporate vinegar on a hotplate, creating DMT-Acetate crystals.
8. Collect DMT-Acetate crystals onto a spoon, heat the bottom of the spoon to convert DMT-acetate to DMT-Freebase.
9. Vaporize the DMT in the Divine Tribe wax vaporizer
Here are my concerns with my solution:
I really don’t know how to separate the powdery sediment from the DMT. I think it is mostly lime/Sodium Carbonate. Will step 4 be enough? Whenever I try and filter it out with a coffee filter, it always comes through. Do I need to do a Sodium Carbonate wash here?
Defatting. Is it necessary? According to the original Tek I followed, it is necessary to have a clean final product.
However I am trying to switch over to Q21Q21’s Tek instead. According to Tek 1, a defat is not mentioned. Was the defat done someplace in Q21Q21’s Tek, and I did not notice it?
Did I fuck up by mixing lime and Sodium Carbonate? I wouldn’t think this would change much, but I am by no means a chemist, and don't know if there would be some weird interactions going on here.
Whenever starting from scratch in the future [I ordered a pound of bark], does my bark need to be powdered/shredded more? This is what mine currently looks like.
Is the Divine Tribe vaporizer recommended? I don't want to be smoking shit that I don't even know is made right. I’d feel safer doing this as I am not combusting anything.
I am on the brink of giving up, and I really don't want to move forward without someone else experienced telling me that I am going in the right direction.
