Hi folks, SWIM has decided to try and attempt an extraction of mhrb in the UK but SWIM has a couple of questions regarding ingredients. SWIM has decided to go with the NOMAN tek. SWIM would like to know what the best and easiest type of naphtha to procure is in the UK? Also SWIM would also like to know what the best supplier of mhrb is? He has looked at mimosahostilis.co.uk and has read that this is a good supplier? SWIM also lives in scotland and is keen to learn if the soft waters of scotland would make a difference in the extraction tek? If so should SWIM use de-ionised water or something? Any other help would be most welcome cheers!

The only usable naphtha I could find in the UK is here:
There's at least one other place but they sell heavy naphtha whisch is useless in this kind of extraction.

Regarding MHRB SWIY's money will be better spent if he gets it from outside the UK IMHO, you should look in the suppliers thread and choose from there, plenty of information.

Soft water is better for extraction than hard so SWIY will be ok to use that.

Ronsonol and Newport work just fine.

Mimosahostilis.co.uk- I have read good reports from members about there bark.

I actually got some really nice results from using a heavy naphtha. Without any recrystalizing I got fully form glass shard clusters, straight from the first freeze precip. Only annoying thing is that it doesn't pour off as easy as light naphtha and takes longer to evaporate. But it's also a lot cheaper and easy to come across OTC rather than having to order it.

I never use the swim thing. We all know what you mean, and so does anyone else reading, so IMHO, it's a waste of time.

MHRB

I had links for fumeric acid, acetone, IPA and some other things but they were Ebay items. Just search there for anything else. Scales etc.
Lye is really easy to get in the uk. They have it in boots (caustic soda) or most small Diy shops.
Sodium Carbonate can be baked from sodium bicarbonate in the oven... Not sure for how long at what temp but if you search the forum it will come up.

I cant think of anything else at 8.30am.
Good luck.

?? i forget who said:
1. Buy Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO3, Baking soda).
2. Put it in a wide heat-resistant container, and place it in oven at 250°C/500°F for 3 hours.
3. Stir occasionally and observe carbon dioxide escape as the bicarbonate decompose into the hydrogenfree carbonate of sodium instead.
(2 NaHCO3 + Heat → Na2CO3 + CO2 + H2O)
4. When the carbon dioxide stops flowing, wait a little further.
5. Take it out, let it cool and you're done. You now have sodium carbonate!

I acquired my MHRB from here: Shop by Category | eBay

(ok to post this link??)

Anyways, it would appear that mimosa hostilis.co.uk are a reseller for these people anyway, so it all comes from the same source, I was pleased with my order - they even emailed to me to tell me that their european distributor didn't have enough in stock so they were shipping it from brazil (or wherever) and they would pay the extra shipping costs - if that isnt good quality customer service, then I dont know what is!!
