"[My] home was completely burned, destroying everything that was most important: laboratory, hydroelectric system, custom-built and -designed electric motorcycle and, for the crowning touch, [the arsonist] tried to burn [my] library, one of the best private collections on ethnomedicine that exist. Signed, personal copies of some of Albert Hofmann’s books were even used as fuel to ignite expensive laboratory equipment! While the humidity of the cloud-forest saved the books, the house was rendered uninhabitable and without power; the laboratory unusable.

It is the attempted book-burning which most outrages me and, I think, will outrage others.

For that reason, I am dedicating my full attention first to saving the books—I now have 53 boxes banded and stashed, and there will be perhaps 100 to 125 in total. This is hard and dirty work, but I can see light at the end of the tunnel.

So I am fucked in a major way and the rest of this year will be devoted to moving to Colombia and starting over there. I go to Colombia to lecture in May and hope to have library and lab packed up by then. I have to start over again for the 4th time, but will land on my feet and in 2 years time be better off than before."

Interesting that they went for the books, wasn't Mckenna's library also the victim of a suspicious fire that destroyed very rare and out of print copies of seriously important literature?

This type of shit makes my blood boil, anger is the appropriate response here, to my mind, as this was an attempt to stifle the spread of information and knowledge, short of rape/torture/murder I'm hard pressed to think of more heinous crimes. Has he done any work recently that could have specifically instigated someone to go after him? Obviously his career makes him a threat to the shadowy "they" but I'm curious if he's had any recent major breakthroughs/discoveries.

Keep in mind that there are those who view entheogen use as devil worship. I think this is one of the reasons BBB was a target in Kansas, if the truth was known.

Its making more and more progress! We will propably see more of these acts as we approach our goal. It's so ridiciolous. If these fools would just know, their actions would haunt them to they day they died.

Lets all send him some positive vibes and dont forget that what we are doing is the right thing and nothing can stop us, this movement which is thousands of years old. The healing process has just begun!

Yes, and such people are easily manipulated by those with a bigger picture in mind.
 
I am infuriated! I hope justice is served in this arson. Jonathan Ott has been such a great contributor to the entho-community. Very tragic and my heart goes out to Ott. Damn the moral crusade against true freedom.
 
This is a crime against Ott, against psychedelia and against humanity. I shudder with nausea when I consider the research, archives and notes that have been lost . . .

This also shows how important it is that rare and irreplaceable documents are digitised and stored in securely offsite. Information should also be shared wherever practicable. You can burn books but once the data is out there nothing can stop its dissemination.

Will be donating when I can get some cash in the bank.
 
It makes me extremely sad to see that some people don't want entheogens to be discussed in public, so they try to gag anyone who wants a debate in the full light of the day. It really disturbs me that people can do such things! Good luck Ott, I hope the new lab you are setting up will turn out good! I have donated the money I could spare, so should everyone else do.
 
Damn...a shameful crime there, and obviously some serious douchebags are behind this. Glad to see he's got such a positive outlook, this is only a temporary hit on a movement that can't be stopped...
