Howzit guys,

Im from sunny south africa home to the famously underated kanna.

I have been playing with A/B extraction of my fermented material and hoping to share my knowledge and research through experimenting.

I have mastered the extraction to be left with a yellow/brown oil using DCM as my solvent for success. If anyone would like my step by step I will glady post with pics of the setup.

As soon as I tried using xylene instead of DCM as my solvent, after acidification with 0.1M H2S04 to PH 3 and basifying with 20% ammonia solution to PH10 , within about a few second white swirls of crytal looking fine salts started collecting at the bottom of the sep. funnel? I decided to halt as this doesnt happen with DCM.

Someone help? Is xylene better than DCM or should I stick with DCM ? I saw DMT crystals and I am trying to achieve Kanna crystals "Happy crystal" if anyone can assist with the know how

To answer you in my opinion, yes the pure oil does work in a vaporizer also I assume it is mesembrine because research papers say it is yellow in appearance, I bought in material locally and it gave me a 0.6% yield on 125g of KANNA. I am a cultivar of KANNA myself with around 10 000 plants of different species and going to do HPLC analysis on the alkaloid profiles as there is more than one "sceletium". Each one of the 8 has its own strengths. I am fortunate to have a hybrid species. Will keep you guys up to date on my results. Stay tuned 8)

I have a question, is the white precipitate indicating the alkaloids in salt form? What is odd is when adding 230ml of Xylene to 750ml of Acid water the white swirls start building up like its snowing. Would these very fine white crystals be safe for consumption.

Given the fact that kanna is rich in oxalic acid. You should be carefull of eatin that.

I dont expect mesembrine to form salts and to work in A/B.
Yellow oil means nothing as you can extract a yellow oil from nearly every plant there is.
