I don't know if this is post is realy that much at odds with the 'respectful communication' part.

I think that what is being said in the attitude page is about how you, as a poster, could reasonably expect a sentence to be interpreted (the emphasis being on: respectful communication, implicit messages, dignified manner, etc.). Not on words persé.

Semantics is more relevant than syntax, i'd say.
So for instance: despite some of the words being used and the order in wich they appear, the post in no way comes even close to adressing religious attitudes towards incest.

Anyway...i don't find it that disrespectful, as i don't think it was meant that way.

It is alright if you don't find it offensive, that isn't the point. It is spelled out in the rules that The Traveler doesn't want "curse words or immature slang" both of which were used above. There are better ways to articulate your thoughts. I'm all for casual swearing, but there is a time and a place for that, and it isn't here at the Nexus.

You're on a forum surrounded by tons of people who have done DMT (and usually have made it as well), often tens or hundreds of times. You just had your first trip, and it was mind-blowing. I get it, I was blown away too. So was everyone else. You didn't become a wise guru capable of talking down to everyone by taking DMT once. "Wow" is pretty much the bare minimum, not the be-all and end-all.

It's like showing up on a bodybuilding forum after your first day in the gym and expecting everyone to be amazed by your observation that weights are heavy. Can you provide a little more detail and insight about what you experienced beyond "wow"? That is the real challenge, and people here are very receptive to reading and discussing your experiences if you provide some content and approach it in a thoughtful and respectful way.

Okay then if this is a discussion, and well, it probably should be. Why? Well, the other day I was talking to a new friend, and I brought this place up as a potential resource for him to research on his own. He said he'd been here, but was turned off from joining because of the "e" word. My aplology went along the 'creating respectful community, preserving rational discourse, bla bla. And I stand by all that. The Attitude Page (genuflect) is the backbone here, and guides the place along those lines to keep it a perpetual resource.

All that said, I only found the OP offensive in that it is intentionally dumb. OP even adopted the "higher than thou" stance in a follow up post by saying he achieved his whatever he achieved. Personally, I'd hate to see the level of communication here drop to such a level, and don't think I'm alone. This place helped me learn how to express myself a little better, I don't think asking members to try a little harder than they would describing a cartoon is that much

Most people are excited about their experiences, but the reason I come to the nexus is because it seems more welcoming and professionally presented then other sites.

One can easily express their excitement without vulgarity.

In defence of the OP i do remember a thread on this forum devoted to using bad language and how it was a no no and i am sure that i remember Trav saying that, due to the sometimes overwhelming nature of the experience, on occasion the odd expletive maybe allowed.

Although i would prefer that the OP expand a little bit on describing the experience.

Of course a lot of people had very intense life changing experiences that they could use a lot of expletives to describe it, me included

mezzodaemon, the way you phrased your question and thread may be read by some as immature, and doesn't seem to lead to further discussion. Let's say everybody answered 'yes'.. or 'no'.. Now what? What can you do with those answers, and where can we go from here?

I think one of the differences between people who've done DMT and people who haven't, is that people, experienced with DMT are aware of the fact that language is a far more innacurate tool for communication than we in our day-to-day use of it, tend to think.

One of the problems with language is that it is not in any way, completely unambiguous. This is because language is a vehicle for the transportation of 'meaning', but 'meaning' can be transported in so many ways, or can itself exist out of several layers of other meanings.

Actually, most of these 'meanings', we merely project onto written language. It is not in the words or symbols themselves. So what we do, when we write or speak, is that we intuïtively try to imagine how others would project meaning onto our own words, so that the meanings they project, will be the meanings that we wanted them to project.

Sometimes, this proces doesn't work very well because people have different backgrounds and experiences, and people operate from a different context, and this causes them to project different meanings onto certain words or combinations of words.

We call that miscommunication.

I'd like to think that this is what's been going on here, rather than that people where deliberately trying to sound immature, offensive....or very unwelcoming in any way.

This is generally the first reaction of every primate that touches the hyperrealms. To quote the old bard, this is the "giving way to astonishment" that the tykes advised so strongly against. I'd suggest the challenge is to "pay attention" enough to what is happening in there to articulate something moar coherent from the experience.

One of the most impressive things about this forum is the effort that various explorers have put into mapping and defining these spaces. Reading through the hyperspace lexicon and the quality experience reports is a good way to see how much plotting has already been done, and how much moar is needed to start even beginning to create a dialect that does any kind of justice toward describing this experience.
As one great thinker once put it:

Let us think the unthinkable, let us do the undoable, let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all.
