Movies worth watching

Migrated topic.
Just watched "The Jacket" wow that's a good movie, I've never really been a big fan of Adrien Brody but this movie and Predator's were great. Also got a chance to see Moon which was good as well.

i know its already been listed but i thought id bump it because its so crucial: 2001: A space Odyssey.

Natural Born Killers is entertaining as well.

Science of sleep is neat.

of course... Pink Floyd the wall when the mood strikes..

I saw it listed but I'm going to recommend Akira again.

Ooohh David Cronenberg's Videodrome and Naked Lunch(I haven't seen it yet because I lack the VHS to watch it but I hear its out there)

I love how every film I've seen listed is amazing. I will have to look some of these one I don't know up.

many of my favourites are mentioned already except:

solaris/solyaris (based on the book by stanislav lem)

the Tarkovsky film is very good, but I personally prefer the remake/reinterpretation by Soderbergh. It makes you question everything from life, death, relationships, science, religion etc.

It's a beautiful film to see, and the soundtrack is absolutely superb. I would recommend not watching a trailer. Here is one of the tracks from the OST CLiff Martinez

hope you'll enjoy! please note this is a very slow film that demands your full attention :)

Many good films mentioned here of course (and some definitely not my taste)..

Regarding tarkovsky, I didnt like solaris too much, I prefer Stalker.

Other good films that I dont think have been mentioned yet:

Snatch
Memento
The story of the weeping camel
Spring, summer, fall, winter and spring
Wild Strawberies
The Seventh Seal
Motorcycle diaries
Seven Samurai
City of God
The usual suspects
The sting
Chunking express
Edukators
Amores Perros

plenty more for sure, but thats it for the moment.

The Road
LOTR trilogy
The Matrix trilogy
Baraka
We live in public
Reefer Madness
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Layer Cake
The Inside Man
Rock'nRolla

Ghost Dog
Ronin
Old Boy

If you're interested in martial arts, check out - The Bladed Hand (Filipino Martial Arts)

Gattica (good sci-fi movie, based in the future, altering genetics)
waterworld
the road (good end of the world type movie, some may want to avoid watching this, some graphic scenes)
the postman
Ink (good independent film, hard to explain plot)
The man from Earth (oddly good movie, whole movie is just people talking in same room, a man lives forever)
fightclub
Jumper
The emerald forest (good old movie, DMT use in it by a jungle tribe)
London (one of my favorite movies I've seen lately, bit of a character study)

I have to second Contact, Jacob's Ladder, and The Wicker Man because they've both had such huge impact and represent certain aspects of hyperspace information that I haven't seen rendered so explicitly elsewhere. Also highly recommend The Colours of Infinity (a trippy documentary on the Mandelbrot Set - http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docid=-6939286120674554766&hl=en&fs=true), DMT: The Spirit Molecule (duh), and Cappadonna's Iron Fist Pillage (70s-style kung fu movie dubbed over by WuTang). Also Sans Soleil!

-The Last Mimzy (this one really blew me away! Highly suggest this one!)
-Jacob's Ladder (I've met the writer, who also wrote Ghost, The Last Mimzy, and Brainstorm - he really gets it!)
-Altered States (really wish they would do a part two of this one - P.S. the book is better/more in depth than the film)
-Finding Nemo
-Memento (from Inception director)
-Inception
-The Matrix (first is still the best)
-2001 (try reading the book before you watch or find the script/screenplay online and read the first 10 or so pages and the last 5 pages to get a deeper meaning of what the writer and director and showing you visually - really f-ing cool meanings of the monoliths and the entities behind them)

I'm sure I'm missing tons of others...

Baraka - Absolute Masterpiece. Must see

Avatar
The Holy Mountain - The first half is...... Well you just have to see for your selves. Trippy, very trippy :)
Joe Dirt
Burn after Reading
Crank 2 High Voltage - Just skip nr. 1 and go straight to nr. 2. They're the same, nr 2 just a bit more extreme. And that's what these movies are about. Extreme :) Very cool.

I'm a bit blank at the moment.
Will probably add to that list later.

Here are the condensed Cliff notes for 2001 (the movie)
- we reveal ourselves as monkeys
- then we reveal ourselves as explorers
- then we reveal ourselves as children of light.
.., the end.

The movie Revolver is a super-cool.
Another favorite is Dead Man. That is where my Avatar name comes from.
