Mushroom Grow Kit

Migrated topic.

I have a question concerning my grow kit. The first flush has already been picked, but very tiny mushrooms are still to be seen on the surface and side of the box. Should these be picked too, before starting with the next flush? I hope not...

Any experience with this?

Ive never grown mushrooms before, but from my limited knowledge these sound like aborts. Little shrooms that 'aborted' during growth. They can be eaten and supposedly contain more tryptamines then the fully developed shrooms. Tho they tend to rot pretty fast. I wouldn't eat them if they have started to rot, but would remove them before continuing with the next flush.

Yes, pick the surface clean of the little ones, they won't mature now and will start to rot. Any down at the sides... well its a trade off, you want to get rid of them ideally but you don't want to manhandle your kit too much. Print that second flush mercilessly:d

Ok thanks guys,

it is so damn exciting to see these things grow. I'll be cleaning the surface dry as soon as i get home.

Peace

Yeah. I use sterilized tweezers, or forceps to pick the aborts out so as not to disrupt your substrate too much. If they look like actual mushrooms that are going to mature, then just leave them. You might be getting a nice second flush. You will commonly get two to three flushes (sometimes more) off of one inoculation, culture, and casing. The flushes will continue to come until the nutrients in your substrate and casing are used up, OR until you get a contaminant in there.

If the "little mushrooms" look like mutated penises and are very dark (purple or almost black), then they are aborts, but if they look like genuine, healthy "baby" mushrooms then you are probably just getting your next flush. I've had to wait a day or two for a second flush before, so be patient.

The fact that you said this was your "first" flush makes me think that these might be healthy primordia on their way to full fruition. It's rare to only get one flush in a harvest.

Good luck! I love growing my "gourmet" mushrooms! I'll still NEVER forget the rush I got when I saw my very first primordia. I was one proud papa! :p

The second flush is coming as we speak. I saw a few caps pop out... So i am pretty sure the other small ones that were there before were aborts, cause of the dark colour they had. i didn't throw them away as I have no idea if they are edible or not? In my case it took a bit longer for the second flush to show itself, but here it is then. Can't wait... They look amazing.

Thanks for your expertise guys.
