music that gets you through life..

Migrated topic.
Some albums that have gotten me through life. I chose a few albums that have been important to me through the years. I owned a record store, so, I'm REALLY into music. There are many more.

XTC - Black Sea (and all the others:d )
Brian Eno - Another Green World & Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy)
Captain Beefheart - Ice Cream for Crow
Television - Marquee Moon
Robert Wyatt - Old Rottenhat, Rock Bottom, Nothing Can Stop Us
Nick Drake - Bryter Layter, Five Leaves Left and Pink Moon
Todd Rundgren - Todd, Something Anything, A Wizard A True Star, Initiation, Faithful etc....
Red House Painters - S/T (Roller Coaster)
Landspeedrecord! - Intermission
Richard and Linda Thompson - I Want to See The Bright Lights Tonight
Talk Talk - Laughing Stock, Spirit Of Eden
Cocteau Twins - Victorialand
Joni Mitchell - Don Juans Reckless Daughter
Pat Metheny - Bright Size Life
Future Sounds Of London - Lifeforms
Braille Party - Welcome To Maryland
Kate Bush - The Dreaming
Fred Frith - Gravity
Henry Cow - Leg End
King Crimson - Discipline (and most of the other albums)
Glen Gould playing J.S. Bach - Goldberg Variations, English Suites
Spookey Ruben - Modes Of Transportation (Vol 1)
Peter Gabriel - Security
Harmonia - De Luxe

And when I sleep : Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois - Apollo, Atmospheres And Soundtracks

These are some of my favorite bands. All the music they produce is amazing but I'll only link a song each for now.

Iron Maiden - Truly modern day bards!
"Brave New World"
Tool - Deep music that can be related to on so many different levels.
"Lateralus"
Black Sabbath - Paved the way for a lot of metal today.
"Planet Caravan"
King Crimson - One word to describe their earlier stuff "Masterpiece".
"Epitaph"
Sonata Arctica - Power metal poets.
"My Selene"
Queensryche - Politically fueled "thinking metal"
"Revolution Calling"

I listen to MUCH more than this, but these are the ones that have been my constant allies through time. My tastes change now and then but these are the bands that I can listen to no matter the mood I'm in.

Man, I was really stuck on that Vignetting The Compost album for awhile when it came out. I don't think it left my cd player for a month. It's like Nick Drake playing guitar for Boards Of Canada. good stuff.

Here's some more for all you metal lovers!

Hibria - "Stare at yourself"
Hibria - "A kingdom to share"
Both great songs with inspirational themes.
Gamma Ray - "Fight"
Very inspirational lyrics, but the music is what it's about and that rocks too!
Sinergy - "Beware the Heavens"
Alexi Laiho from Children of Bodom on guitar!
Pyramaze - "Ancient Words Within"
Part of a concept album about the struggle of good vs evil, very well done.
Blind Guardian - "Otherland"
Blind Guardian's a must for powermetal fans.

Another worth checking out is "Fire dance" by Balance of Power. Same vocalist as Pyramaze, unfortunately I cannot find a link.

I find the powerful instrumentation along with light-hearted inspirational lyrics of powermetal very uplifting and empowering. It tends to avoid the common themes of death and hate a lot of newer metal features today. I suggest checking it out!

I really dig the new dark progg sounds that more producers are starting go after in psy.

Some of my favorites are the grobians, sensient, kaine and able, and of course radioactive cake :D
