Hey guys,
SWIM and his friend were out bushwalking a few days ago (hunting for Acacia) and they stumbled across a group of small trees (1-2m tall) that looked alot like Acacia Obtusifolia (at least according to the images they'd seen and descriptions they'd read online). They took an adequate amount of bark (~2kg) just incase, and some trimmings from one of the trees, so that they could post photos here.

Here's the first photo; a image of the trimmings they took:

The second and third photos are closeups of the trimmings, from different angles (note the red tinge to the tips of the leaves, a feature SWIM read is common to Obtusifolia):

And finally, a photo of some of the leaves, with a hand for size comparison:
(Note, SWIM measured one of the leaves; it measured 12cm long by 14mm wide (which fits size descriptions he'd read before))

What do you guys think?

it looks like sophorea to me, obtusifolia dont flower till around xmas. the leaves are more of a "army green" then the lighter green u have there. also the redish tips are alot more visible. when u feel the leaves of obtusifolia they feel really leathery and thick. also on the new phylodes the edges are quite serrated.
around what area did u find this and i can tell you if they grow there?

The trees were found in Port Stephens, along a dirt road through the bush.

then i am pretty confident it is sophorea... maybe try looking for some maidenii around that area.... be carefull stripping bark. if ur gonna do it take a pruning saw and cut the hole branch off u are going to use...stripping bark kills the trees and doesnt look good from a bush rangers perspective...

Thanks for the help. Is the bark taken of any use? (ie. does it contain DMT?) And thanks for the tip, SWIM will keep that in mind and do that from now on.

Bugger; well thanks anyway, SWIM will try and find some Maidenii next time, and do it more appropriately.

hi how you going mate ,iv had the same problem im from newty and iv looked around the place for a long time,i thought i jagged it out the back of awaba but it turned out to be longifolia i also think you have longi, reson being is they look very very similar and longi is in flower now its everywhere while obtusi flowers in december to feb ,also the longi flowers are sorta a bright yellow while the flowers from the obtusi are a more pale yellow flower.but the other week my search got ended well from the area anyway, cut a long story short, coinsidently met a guy at a party who is very clued up knows everythin inside out with entheogens.he rekons the closest place to get obtusi is the blue mountains other than that its up north say from kempsey upwards, this guy is legit i beleive him ,also he said you wont find it below 800m altitude its up high, realy dry areas.sad but true sorry if i burst your bubble but if i didnt meet this guy i could have been looking around here for years to come.

p.s i also tried 3 or more times with the longi bark thinkin it was definately obtusi so i was thinkin i was doing somthing wrong turns out i wsnt just the wrong bark man,

good luck bud

Ah crap , im having ID problems with acacias as well .

Careful though with extraction of acacias ,as most have other alkaloids and those will come out with any dmt tek ,so you may have undesitable chemicals, thats why people use mimosa hostilis , it only has dmt in it . . ,i found one acacia that had dmt, nicotine , amphetamines and mescaline in it : WTF? so just careful with that

But the fact that its long leaf is promising, the long leaf varietys seem to have dmt more often . but still not sure ,sorry

BTW im not Australian
