Plants that contain Harmala Alks + Harmala Alks List

Sup Nexus,
I am trying to put to together a list of all the harmala alkaloid containing plants as well as a list of as many Harmala Alkaloids as possible I will start it off.
Tobacco
Harman, norharman

Banisteriopsis Caapi vine
Harmine, Harmaline, Tetrahydroharmine

Syrian Rue seeds
Harmine
Harmaline

Single Harmala Alkaloids
Harman,Harmine, Harmaline, Harmalol, Tetrahydroharmine, Harmalan, Harmine Acid, Harmanamide, Acetylnorharmine, Norharman

I am becoming very fasinated with Harmala Alkaloids if any one has any information or good links with info I would greatly appriciate it.Thanks everyone:d

I am not a very seasoned extractor but from what i understand although a little THH is extracted from caapi vast majority of THH comes from converting Harmaline into THH via reduction.

I don't think this the case; with caapi extraction an a/b will supposedly pull all three harmala alks. A manske is supposed to leave behind THH while grabbing harmine/harmaline (althought I don't know that this has been verified).

Also, you can add Eleagnus angustifolia (russian olive) to your list as it contains "harman and tetrahydroharman" according to literature floating around.

Hmm thanks for that info as I said im new to extractions. Thats cool about the russian olives Im going to look into those. Thanks:d
 
I read a bit about Tribulus terrestris containing harmala alks awhile back. A few people had tried using it as an MAOI to activate DMT. I got distracted with other things and didn't end up pursuing it, and I haven't really kept up on whether anyone else has reported success with it since I compiled a brief summary a couple years ago.

Here's the summary: Tribulus terrestris (Bai Ji Li) - Another MAOI Admixture Plant - Other Psychoactives - Welcome to the DMT-Nexus

That ought to at least give you a starting point if you're interested in following up on it, I've still got too much on my plate just now.

Thanks thats article was exactly what I was looking for. The total amount of harmalas in Tribulus seems very low, but at such a low price per pound and such rare harmals it could be worth it.

has only relatively recently been shown to have potent reversible inhibition of MAO-A and B..Harman binding experiments. I: A reversible and selective radioligand for monoamine oxidase subtype A in the CNS of the rat. May T, Rommelspacher H, Pawlik M. 1991
from the abstract:
Harman (1-methyl-beta-carboline) is an endogenous compound with neurotropic properties in rats and humans. In a novel in vitro binding assay, the binding site of [3H]harman has been characterized in the rat crude mitochondrial (P2) fraction. The binding was saturable and reversible.
.. a chemical supplier says: "Harman... Potent inhibitor of monoamine oxidase A and B (IC50 values are 0.5 and 5 μM respectively)"..Rommelspacher [2002] - found as an inhibtor of MAO-B, "Harman had an IC50-value of approximately 1 μM (competitive interaction)."..this is comparable (slightly stronger infact from my understanding of IC-50 values) to Harmine, of more fame..the paper by Samoylenko et al. [2010] posted by endlessness in this thread www.dmt-nexus.me/forum/default.aspx?g=posts&t=26443 "found Harmaline and harmine showed..inhibitory activity against...(MAO)-A and -B enzymes (IC50 2.5 and 2.0 nM, and 25 and 20 μM)."
..Harman was also found in Fagonia cretica (Zygophyllaceae, native to Alicante Province, Spain and the Balearic Islands -aerial parts) by the authors of this paper Structure of Harman- El-Sayed et al. 1986 characterising it's structure...it has been found in Phaseolus vulgaris (Leguminoseae), several Australian Acacias, the African Pauridiantha lyallii (Rubiaceae) as well as in Raisins, and in traces in Tobacco and cannabis smoke..

there has been a false myth in the entheogenic community for years that harman is not very active..

..around 12 species of Passiflora have been found to contain Harman [see Passifloras of Interest..]..

so, more potent than Harmine, and more common..? and endogenous..what do others think..?
