Hello everyone. I have a friend who recently tried making a small batch of aya with little no success, we're wondering what went wrong with this? Using 28g B. Caapi foliage and 25 g dried p viridis both were grinded finely and added to a water-vinegar solution (roughly 3-4 T. for each pot of water) and both were stored seperately and left to chill overnight.

The only issue was that i believe his caapi arrived much sooner than the chacruna so one brew was left to mature for a week in the fridge whereas the other was in just overnight.

Both were boiled for 2 1 and 1/2 hour boils and allowed to cool. this reduced each roughly to half the volume of the original liquid. a small amount was filtered and sampled to check for potency but little to no effect was achieved.

as a last resort he is going to combine the two brews and allow it to boil again for another hour, cool and then strained.

will this be adequate to achieve a potent drink or is something seriously out of whack? we have researched thoroughly and im fairly sure it should work.

the last time the brew was made he noticed a crystal-like precipitate forming at the bottom but the resulting drink was only midly psychoactive, i am told. this time there appears to be little to none, is that an issue?

also, on a side note and completely irrelevant, although i have searched for an answer to this i cannot find one anywhere. does anyone know what is responsible for making ones eyes so clear and white usually the day after a journey? this has always baffled me.

thanks!

i forgot to mention after the two had been combined for the third boil, 500ml of water was added as well.

Unless you have strong vine then 28g is not enough caapi.

Don't think that you brewed it for long enough either, check on the all about Aya thread for good details on brewing.

Isn't a 1:1 ratio standard? Or do you mean as a whole not enough plant material? I'm pretty sure that's a fair amount but i could be mistaken.

Also does it have anything to do with me using the leaves and not the vine? I thought i would be receiving the vine and they do seem substantially less potent.

I meant not enough caapi and chacruna, but I've just noticed you said leaf not vine, I would get some vine.

Have a read through the Aya forum and you will have all the Aya info you need.

Most of the Caapi and Chacruna available on the net is notoriously weak.

IMO you are pretty much going to have to boost the caapi with some rue or use way more caapi.

Personally I take pure harmine cuz I think rue on it's own is too harsh. I take the harmine fumerate and caapi together and that ALWAYS works incredibly sure fire style.

This would be the third time my friend has had these herbs shipped to his residence so it isn't likely more will be ordered but thanks for your advice. Would it be best to just start again? Where is a reliable source for strong viridis and rue online? avalon was seriously disappointing.

I'm just reading the original post and I am almost positive that the issue is that you are working with caapi leaf instead of caapi vine. Caapi vine by itself is fairly psychoactive.

then what went wrong? the last and final combined boil was simmered for about 3 hours so in total 5-6 should have done the trick, correct?

I have no reason to doubt jamie's statement, but I would still look into an alternative harmala source. Caapi vine would be the obvious choice. Also, at least double the weight of the caapi leaf you used. I don't know if anything I'm saying is correct, but approx. 50 grams of caapi vine has not failed me and I suspect it will work for you too.
