DMTripper

John Murdoch IV
I was trying out my first extraction of DMT just 30min ago. I wasn't going to smoke too much because I was just trying to see if this was DMT I had so I just smoked a little. I put a very small amount on a piece of aluminium foil that was covered with a glass funnnel that had a hole in it for one finger like a bong. The DMT evapourated quite quickly and I inhalded the smoke. It tasted bad and the smell was much like burning rubber like I've heard people talk about. I held the smoke down for a while before blowing it out. But the only thing that happened was physical. My heartbeat got stronger and I felt a strange pressure and dizzyness in my head. And I was really ready for something more and was expecting at least to see some fractal patterns and colors but nothing. I defenetely need to smoke more but I'm still a bit scared of what I have in my hands. The smoke was not so harse on my lungs but reather my throat and my tongue feels a little like I burned it drinking something too hot. Can it be that it's pulluted with NaOH? Could that be the reason my tongue feels like this? Like a little burnt by too hot coffee? Can naptha absorb NaOH from the base solution when extracting? The naptha was very clear after I separated it from the base/rootbark mix so I didn't think any NaOH got into there. So what does people say here? Should I go for a massive toke or what. I have very little DMT so if I try to purify it I think I might loose too much of it in the process. What's the best way to purify?

The heartbeat/head pressure thing sounds like low dose DMT and the burning smoke sounds like dirty product. The best way to clean it is recrystalization but there is loss of goodies so you could at least make sure all the lye is gone by washing with ammonia. Make sure it is non - soapy/scented, very cold, and if you can get 10% (janitor strength) all the better.

I think I'll try that 'cause I'm not very much up to smoking this anyways how it is now. Better to loose some than to have only crap stuff that you can't smoke anyways. So does the ammonia evapourate completely? I have some instructions somewhere how to wash with ammonia so I'm going for it.

I still have questions about this. Can the NP solvent pull some Lye out of the base mix? And if I managed to smoke enough to feel very strong heartbeat and this weird feeling of pressure and dizziness in my head, then shouldn't I have seen at least some different colors or patterns or something? I really felt like there was something massive going to happen. But then nothing :( I'm always afraid that I'm smoking some filth that came out of the extraction like lye or something. Don't like that :p And one more: Everyone says you should try not to burn the DMT, just make it evapourate. So what's the difference. Why not burn it?

DMTTripper, I am also wondering about that Naoh/residue issue. Naphta can be very very slightly soluble in water (something like less than 0.1%), but I don't know if water is soluble in naphta. I am not chemist so all the following is pure speculation : Let's imagine that 0.1% of water is soluble in naphta. Let's say you have 100 g of Naoh in 1000 ml of water. You add 100 ml of naphta which dissolve 100*0.1%=0.1 ml of water -> 10 mg of Naoh ? So assuming all that, yes there may be some Naoh in the material. But note that Naoh vaporization temp is 1390°C... much higher than DMT ! I doubt that this is the cause of the increased heartbeats. I wonder if the best would not be a wash of cold pure water to dissolve the remaining Naoh. However, I guess that some very small amount of residue from the naphta are probably more nasty than the Naoh. [quote:72b83f103a]Why not burn it?[/quote:72b83f103a] Again no chemistry serious knowledge, but burning something means changing it's chemical nature by an oxydation reaction. Burn sugar and you'll got carbon and water (carbo hydrate). Vaporize water and you'll got... vaporized water, not H2 and O. Not so good example because I doubt you can 'burn' water ;)

And I found this on another forum: [quote:3f69533e58]Lye does not end up in your endproduct if you follow the procedure and make sure you dont suck up anything below the naptha layer. Lye doesnt bind to naptha. There is an easy way to test for lye on your endproduct, put a little DMT on the point of a knife and then put a torch flame (blue) on it. If it becomes yellow for a fraction of a second, there is lye in the product. If it stays blue, its clean.[/quote:3f69533e58]
