Site Quirks topic

Many of my posts don't have the Edit button visible. A few do, and so do profile posts and conversations. It doesn't seem to be correlated to the post's age. Weird quirk, any ideas?

I'm unable to edit my prior post, so here's another maybe-quirk:

The three dots that are the button to interact with someone's profile post [. . .] require a double click to open the new window. I am not sure if this is an intended design feature, because every other button on the forum is single-click.

Yeah, I think that may be the case. I'm not sure exactly how it works. I feel like soemtimes i still have the ability to edit older posts of mine and it doesnt seem consistent. Perhaps The Traveler knows how it works, yet the details aren't important if it's doing the intended job.

I thought the Edit buttons were on a timed system, for a certain time the button lets you edit before disappearing. Thought it was a feature not a glitch?
Oops, sorry - somehow my quote of @blig-blug's post failed to get included! Apols for confusion. [It was a question about timestamp inconsistencies]

But if you don't see it, it must be my system or browser somehow.
Okay, forget this: I cleared my cache and it stopped happening. Sorry for being dumb and not trying that before.

I can edit threads going back to 2009. Weird that others cannot.
One of the (few!) perks of being a senior, I suspect.

There are editing limits in place to help maintain congruency in threads, as mass deletion of too many users' posts would potentially render important threads incoherent or unreadable.

It seems that PDFs aren't an allowed file type for Resources pages. In cases like this resource, it would be good to be able to host the PDFs directly in the Nexus instead of directing to an external download. One can attach it to a comment and link to it, but if it's an option that's easy to change, I think it would be good to be able to attach it directly to the resource.

Found the method to perform this process:

  • As a moderator reassigned the resource to yourself
    1. Now you can [Change Resource type] to "Uploaded files"

      1775410760662.png
      1. Attach the PDF
      2. Save
    2. Reassign the resource to the original owner

Kind regards,

The Traveler

Mildly irritating thing that seems to be going on since a couple of weeks: type in an emoji using the "colon+letters" syntax and selecting from the popup suggestions results in an added line break,
:p
(seems it's on both sides when inuerted, btw) which I often don't want, as well as a click-through on whatever happens be behind the selected popup emoji - often resulting in unintended posting of an incomplete post.

Sort of trivial, maybe I should use fewer emojis <grinnnnnn>

Found something quirky today. When I link an internal link, the forum wants to turn it into a banner, which is cool. Example:

But the banner drops the part of the link that takes you to the right chapter.

You're linking the chapter by using an appended hashtag, or some other way?

We can see the forum automatically adds an "embed" code.

The link appears to function as intended [EDIT2: it works from the post preview but not when finally rendered as an embedded banner when actually posted], so is it the preview that's missing from the banner? This is similar to what happened when linking to specific posts, where the resulting banner would display the preview of the post at the top of the page instead of the liked post (if it wasn't the one at the top, iygwim). This latter example may or may not have got fixed, I'd have to check - and anyhow it's outside my remit & capabilities.

Testing:
Edit: yeah, links to forum posts got fixed, embedded display of chapters is obviously an additional layer of abstraction.

The copied chapter link after pasting it into the general reply text box:
Code:
https://forum.dmt-nexus.me/Nexus/q21q21s-vinegar-lime-a-b-extraction-tek.230/#230-Tek%2B2%2BThe%2BFluffy%2BWhite%2BFunfest

The link after the embed tags get added:
Code:
[EMBED content="resource-230"]https://forum.dmt-nexus.me/Nexus/q21q21s-vinegar-lime-a-b-extraction-tek.230/#230-Tek%2B2%2BThe%2BFluffy%2BWhite%2BFunfest[/EMBED]

The link after I click on the embedded banner takes me to:
Code:
https://forum.dmt-nexus.me/Nexus/q21q21s-vinegar-lime-a-b-extraction-tek.230/

I don't mind what the banner says, although more relevance would be nice. Just want to be able to point people to the specific chapter. Using the insert link function still works for linking to the chapter.

@Icon if you want to prevent the link from being modified, insert it while BB code is toggled off. Then, manually add "URL" tags like this:

Code:
[URL]https://forum.dmt-nexus.me/Nexus/q21q21s-vinegar-lime-a-b-extraction-tek.230/#230-Tek+2+The+Fluffy+White+Funfest[/URL]

It will be rendered like this:

Wiki - Q21Q21's Vinegar/Lime A/B Extraction Tek

As you can see, it takes you to that section, it's preserved.

The toggle is in that icon to the upper right that looks like this: [ ]

Could the donations for the 2025 goal that have been made in 2026 be added to the 2026 goal? I'll cancel my current recurrent donation and update it to the 2026 goal, but it would be good for it to be counted, and likewise in case anyone else has not canceled and updated.

Ideally, one would not need to cancel anything and the goal would be updated automatically, if someone has a recurrent payment is better if they can forget about it ;)
