Mimosa, my pet python passed away today. She was my dearest and best friend. I absolutely adored that snake. She would always rest her head on my lap and watch tv with me. Mimosa had always brought me joy and happiness even on a tough day.

When I'd get home from work, she'd always greet me and follow me around her cage pressing her chin against the glass to say she wanted out. I miss all those times she'd lay and curl up next to me while I read a book.

She never once bit me. She only opened her mouth to yawn or to eat. She had a really girlish yawn. I especially miss the way she'd nuzzle my hand looking for a place to rest her head. She was a remarkably beautiful creature.

The saddest moment of my life was watching her take her last breath. It's ugly to see something you love so much leave this world. I'll never forget what a joy she brought me in life.

This brought tears to my eyes. I have always find it easier to get attached to animals than humans, and couldn't imagine a life without any animal friend. I have lost one really dear dog when I was a kid and it was really difficult for me to understand that he's not coming back. Now another dog and my best friend is already 13 years old and showing signs of growing old and I must be prepared for the fact that she won't be here for many more years anymore.
What matters is your memories and great experiences you have had with your Mimosa over the years. They will never fade away. It's lovely to hear that Mimosa was really keen on you and had a good life.
Strength to you my friend.

This really hit me. I feel the pain in your loss. I recently lost my best pal and kitty to an unknown ailment that took her from normal to gone in the matter of about 3 days. This whole year has been a big lesson on this for me.. If I may expand on what Metsä said and offer a perspective that has helped me with the abundance of death I've faced this year.

When we have spent as much time with any living thing, as you did with Mimosa, the experience imprints us in ways we often may not be able to relay with words. I have no doubt that through it all there are things about who you are and/or how you act that will remind you of the loss from time to time.. Maybe all the time. And while the physical being is no longer around, these nuances of who you are and what you do that you'll see, are nothing less than their spirit living on within you. In a sense.. you are now each other.

Personally, after learning to embrace this, I know its possible to wear this knowledge and endure the experience with a smile. Its because of this and the fact that we all know the pain you express that I have to share the idea with you.

Take care

Very sorry to hear about your loss. It sounds like you had an amazing relationship with your friend. Your snake was very lucky that you could be there with her as she left this life.

That's a very positive way of thinking about her death. I miss her and I feel terrible when I pass her empty, unlit cage. I guess at least the memories I have are imprinted on me, and I can cherish that.

Thank you guys for your support. It truely is amazing what can impact your life.

animal friends are truly unique , nothing can really ever be better then animal friends

The beauty of an animal companion who 'gets it' is unrivaled in this world.

Human love often fails. But our animal friends are for life. Maybe even beyond...

My deepest condolences.

My deepest condolences as well..I know exactly what you mean by how you describe the relationship you had. Be strong 1ce!

I'm sorry man. I had to go through some loss earlier this month, but not in the same capacity as you're dealing with. So I hear it man... I wish I could do more than say I feel ya, but yeah... it's hard.

I'm sorry you have to go through this, but I appreciate your sharing; it reminds me that I'm not alone when I find myself there.

So sorry for your loss, bonds with animals are strong. A bond between different species is an amazing thing, when you really think about it.

Different species are made differently, live differently, think differently, communicate differently. Creating a bond across all these natural barriers is really an incredible thing.

Thoughts are with you because this is tough. Bonds between humans can contain many different emotional factors. A bond with an animal is a bond of pure love and that is a powerful. Take care 1ce.

Peace

Macre

In my opinion humans build their hopes of what "god" or "divinity" is upon our interactions with animals, especially companion animals or "pets". This idea has become more apparent to me since working at an animal shelter for a few years.. Our inconsistency between our ideas and actions as a whole species seem to reverberate into the reality that has formed in consequence to such ignorance and denial of our atavistic natures that we share with animals.

I'm sorry for your loss 1ce

She was a beautiful snake and the way you describe your relationship with her really shows the depth of your bond

Its incredibly saddening that you saw her go, I cant even imagine.

I have also been dealing with recently losing my animal companion

His name was/is Smokey and he disappeared after we had to find homes his and Momo's (momma kitty's) litter of kittens

He too would greet me after getting home from work and watch tv with me, sometimes he would even try to follow me into the bathroom

There's no way of knowing if he's ever coming back yet since it started snowing in my area and he's primarily an indoor cat without much experience living outside on his own.

I feel like he was deeply offended by the difficult decision we had to make, so there is a great sense of guilt :(

It's getting harder and harder to believe he is out looking for his kids, and easier to believe that he is simply not coming back. Whenever he left before it wouldn't be longer than 2-3 days and he would wait patiently outside the sliding glass door for us to let him in bearing gifts of birds and sometimes rabbits that he would catch

No such luck so far.

My thoughts and prayers are with you

"Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal"

I love that quote. I'm not really a cat person. At least not generally. But every now and again I will meet a cat I connect with. Animals truly are very individual (like us) beings. What I love about cats the most is, I feel they understand us. Perhaps better than we understand them.

I feel awful about your missing cat, I hope the two of you are reunited soon! If it brings you any comfort, my parents had a cat that disappeared for 3 months out of the winter. We got him back =]

Losing a pet is never easy - they really are a part of the family. I've lost three dogs now, and I've been present at all of their 'exits' due to incurable illnesses. It never gets easier. I'm not a person that cries. Ever... but I absolutely bawled for my dogs.

Beautiful snake. RIP <3
