Rubber + Hexane product contamination?

I’m doing my first xtract today with 100g ACRB and currently have ~400mL of base soup. My solvent of choice is hexane (because of availability and a friend avised to use it instead of naphtha for better results). I bought a 1.5L (0.4 gallon) jar with clamp contraption lid, and lid has rubber seal to keep it snug (white translucent and soft). Friend said he used same one and it was fitting for the job, the seal expanded a bit under heat from warm bath and solvent but shrank after a while. Is it ok and not that bad to use, i see people advise against it but idk if it’s a purity thing. I’m a bit concerned about cancer and stuff, although i’m a heavy smoker…

If you’re concerned about cancer, it’s important to stop smoking first. That’s the most meaningful step you can take for your health. Also there’s no guarantee that inhaling DMT is an healthy thing to do.

If you’re worried about contamination, the first step is to stop using anything that might introduce impurities. In this case, the hexane came from a container with a rubber seal. Manufacturers usually choose seals that are resistant to the chemicals they’re meant to hold, but higher temperatures can still have an effect.

The best thing you can do now, something that ideally should be done from the beginning, is a simple cleanliness test. Take a perfectly clean glass plate, preferably a new one. Clean it again with a fresh, lint-free cloth. Then place a few drops of your hexane on the plate. Let it evaporate on its own; don’t blow on it, just give it time.

Once it’s fully evaporated, check the surface. If you see any kind of film or residue where the droplets were, your hexane isn’t clean enough and you shouldn’t use it. If it evaporates completely without leaving anything behind, it’s clean enough for your extraction.

Wishing you the best with your extraction work.

Thank you. I will do the cleanliness test for the hexane now. Also i’m actively trying to quit smoking, went from a pack to 7 a day already :)
