simple cactus powder alcohol resin tek

Migrated topic.
can we get an update on this tek? Is it still useful or is it outdated/updated?
No, it went obsolete last Tuesday :(

It still does what it says on the tin, but CIELO arguably supersedes everything. That raises the essential matter of which solvents and reagents you may have access to. In a sense, this tek method will always have some level of relevance because ethanol remains highly accessible in many regions, and can be produced by the determined experimenter out of little more than sugar and pretty much whatever equipment they can get their hands on.

Wouldn't it be possible to do CIELO on alcohol resin? That would likely lower the required amount of ethyl acetate and I imagine handling 20g would be much easier than 100g. I could even recycle most of the alcohol via distillation. Any reason why this wouldn't be a good idea?

Most likely you can use EA to extract from resin. Exact procedure would be probably somehow different from CIELO.

As these plant resins tend to be quite sticky and is not that easy for solvents to penetrate it, addition of some inert material to improve consistency could be useful. I've used fine sand in the past in similar method.

If you had the resin already, this would make more sense. Rather than running the cactus through two different extractions, if you were starting with cactus I'd be inclined to say you'd be better off keeping it simple and going straight for CIELO.

Maybe if you were in need of processing a rather large quatity of cactus you could justify making a resin with ethanol to reduce the size of the CIELO, rather like you say.

Alcohol intermediate step is quite useful for bigger extractions. If cactus material is (suspected to be) weak, you want to use more cactus to get useful amount of actives.
The resin could be also used for A/B with xylene. It's much cleaner and easier work than to try A/B on reduced cactus tea.
