smoking Harmine HCl

I have some harmaloids (currently believed to be harmine, originally bought as THH) that I would like to use in a changa blend since my 40x caapi leaf was too sticky and could not be finished.

Can Harmine be smoked effectively as the HCl salt or is frebaseing absolutely necessary?
