spice smell

Migrated topic.
I think you haven't waited long enough. Wait at least two hours before scraping the crystals, the longer the better. Then as I do(and some others), redissolve in acetone to be sure no naphtha is trapped inside.

as usual tele, you are probably correct, ill spread it out for a while to dry and see how it goes. if it doesnt work ill try acetone. I assume ill have to heat this in order to melt the spice?

No, just pour little acetone so it covers the crystals, let redissolve and scape abit(so it hardens, this is after liquid eveporation).
The smell should go away soon even without acetone redissolving.

Just spread it out and let it dry overnight and by then it should be fine.

so 12 hours of drying will result in clean crystals? theres no way any residual naptha will be trapped in the crystals?

Just in case it doesnt dry out tonight, how much IPA/acetone would be suitable per gram?

Why acetone and not IPA, since (at least in the US) IPA is sold as medical grade in drug stores as opposed to technical grade from a hardware store?
IPA will work too. The idea is that the naphtha is trapped inside the DMT-crystals that are forming, this gives a bad smell and keeps the extraction waxy.

If you add acetone or IPA this will release the trapped naphtha. I will advice you to do this IPA/acetone redissolve even if you let it already dry for a long time. After the IPA/acetone cleanup you will notice how more crispy and better smelling your extraction is.

Kind regards,

Until now, I've never heard of naptha being "trapped" in the crystals. I don't think thats something that will happen but I could be wrong. Anyway, what I usually do is chop it all up nice and fine with a razor blade and then just air dry it.

nothing is waxy its all pretty dry

(aside from maybe a few orange/brown chunks in my sea of white.)

is this possible? has anyone noticed a difference in smells between extracts?

UPDATE: The spice is mostly odorless now, but im going to do an evap in IPA just to get piece of mind. I do have quite a few dark brown patches in my sea of white, and i dont see them drying out any more then already. the brown waxy chunks smell heavily of this new shoe odor when crushed in my fingers.
