SWIMS first extraction

Well SWIM did his first extraction last night. SWIM went to freezer this am and found a pan full of crystals.
SWIM didn't know really what to expect for yields entirely. After decanting and letting to sit for an hour or less, he scraped it all up with a razor blade. It seems a little moist and oily, is guessing there is some naptha left.
All but 1 small crystal was stuck on the bottom of dish and it flowed into 2nd dish. SWIM noticed the naptha was still quite cloudy after 10 hrs in freezer. After letting it set for awhile it cleared back up again. SWIM decided to do another pull befor discarding fiber for the 5th pull.
SWIM combined the naptha from the previous evening with the last pull and has since put it back in the freezer and will leave it overnight.
The scraped crystals are about the size of his thumb in a somewhat wet pile. Swin is guessing some of that bul maybe naptha and more needs to evaporate.
SWIM always thinking he is smarter than the average bear put said pile on a plate and left it on a warm stove top (not a burner just warmish stove top)for 15 seconds to answer the phone and when he got back he noticed it had almost all melted.
SWIM just checked and it seems like it has rehardened to some degree, but what melted looks a little yellow compared to original crystals. SWIM just smelled it and it still has a bit of naptha and a bit of a floral background smell. Does this sound right?
Next thing to do is guestimate how much to smoke? SWIM has a scale but only measures to .1 grams. SWIM is a little nervous about taking a 100 milligram hit by mistake.
SWIM is excited! SWIM hasn't tripped (LSD) since 1976.
 
You could measure out 100mg and split that pile into say 4 parts. Load up 1 of those small piles and smoalk it up:)

Im very curious about your experience, please post back when you do try!

Make sure there is no naphtha remains in the dmt

And do evaporate the rest of the naphtha down to a smaller amount and stick in the freezer again (or reuse for more pulls) so that you can get whatever there is left of dmt, if there is any

SWIM just checked again and the "substance" is still rather moist and oily. SWIM cut the largest gob apart and still smells strongly of naptha. The naptha has been decanted for 4.5 hours. Is it supposed to moist or is SWIM to wait until it is hard like other white powders?
 
its def not supposed to be moist and smelling of naphtha.. Let it air dry, you can use a fan to help (careful with dust and not blowing the whole thing away).

Alternatively (and recommended) you can use some IPA/Acetone/ethanol to redissolve it and evap again, to help getting rid of naphtha traces
 
Endlessness, you must be a friggin' psychic. You always seem to answer SWIMS questions as he is asking them. Tell SWIM if I should put the plate on top of my grow lights? I am guessing it might melt it again.

Im not sure what temp the grow lights get to.. It is def possible it will melt again if its too hot. It wont necessarily be the end of the world if it does melt, as long as it doesnt melt away from your container or something. What might happen is that it gets darker and harder afterwards, but it should be still active. Unless some of it vaporizes if its way too hot, in that case you wouldnt want that to happen :D.

If you can have patience and just let it evap by itself or with very mild heat, maybe better. Let it be for an hour or two and come back to see how it is.

oh and btw, I suggest not measuring only 100mg because scales are usually not so accurate in their lower limit, better measure 0.2 or 0.3 and then divide in the equivalent number of doses

Are you planning on getting some xylene or d-limo to get the extra alks out before you toss the soup?

I agree with Gammagore.. If you're able to weigh 100mg, just split it up.

I would definitely advise against putting it on top of grow lights.

Those things get way too hot and it's better to be safe than sorry.

If there is one thing I have learned with all things entheogen related is.... Patience is most definitely virtuous!
 
If I had patience I woulda opted to be a doctor (big fat duh) LOL. In SWIM's veg room there T-5 flourecents that are perhaps 80 degrees on top of them. But rather, I will take your advice & try and be virtuous (one can't have enough virtue).
As far as the soup goes, SWIM already chucked it. SWIM has another kilo due to be delivered before the weekend. SWIM suspects he has enough to last quite awhile already. SWIM has an art studio where he works. It gives him a great deal of privacy and space. For the sake of said security SWIM didn't want any components of extraction in the company of botanicals.
By the way, is SWIM going to want to this a 2nd or a 3rd time in the same day? Maybe SWIM should try to wrap his mind around the 1st one for a period of time before doing it again. SWIM is attending The Jerry Garcia Project New Years EVE celebration Friday evening. Is this something I want to sneak out to the car and enjoy between sets?
 
haha, I feel ya on being impatient..

I was thinking of 1000 watt hoods. The T-5's do get pretty warm, but not nearly as bad as the big boys.

Something else I was thinking about was light exposure. From what I understand, spice is best stored in a cool dark place.
I'm not sure if light degrades spice in any way but I figure it's probably best to be safe than sorry.

I don't blame ya on getting rid of the soup. I always feel bad about getting rid of it until I know for sure I've gotten all of the actives out. As far as your studio goes, once again, it's better to be safe than sorry. I'd recommend getting some d-limo for your next extraction though. You'll get better yields and is a lot more pleasant to work with.

As far as frequency of extraction is concerned, that's something only you can answer. It would probably be a good idea to reflect on the current extraction for a bit, but for the sake of learning, practice makes perfect.

I'm not sure what to recommend as far as the show is concerned. You don't have enough time to make 10x caapi for changa but you could infuse some spice to some herbs and roll a joint. I'm not sure if a concert is really the best place for spice to be honest. I know some members enjoy it but it could be a little intense with strait spice. I'd really have to recommend getting used to smoking spice a little before committing to taking any with you for the show.

Don't do this in a public place, especially if you're new to this. It has the ability to knock your socks of like nothing else (I'm already visualizing a rocking car, screams and thumping emanating from it). And, just don't do drugs in a parking lot in a car. Period.

You said you have a nice private place, use that to dip your toe into the abyss. I'm sure others will agree.

I was thinking the same thing, about the show. I guess what the question really was, is; Is a show a good post experience place to be or maybe can the idea until the next day. I had to laugh at the rocking car comment. All this time I have seen rocking cars and "Gawd Awful" screams coming from it I always thought it was sex, boy am I naive! :)
By the way...Good News...Bad News: The melted spice scraped up white and dry. SWIM says it has about dried completely. SWIM put it on the scale and it doesn't even register. Looks like a big pile. SWIM is wicked bummed. SWIM bout the most expensive ones he could find last night. SWIM doesn't know a soul who might have any thing more accurate than a bathroom scale. I have been to the mall and have seen the clothes too many women wear and am sure thier scales either, lie like a rug or or the scales SUCK!
 
check ebay for mg-scales. A lot of people here have done so and while it doesn't meet lab status i guess, they're pretty cheap wich covers the small defficiency in precision. I payed around 35$ for mine, wich is next to nothing compared to the professional equipment displayed by lab supply sellers.

*edit: I personnaly find most places suitable for post-experience. It's a reality-check thing I guess. Hell I even like grocery shopping while in the afterglow, watching people, thinking about the sheer massiveness of human activity needed to for me to be able to fill my basket.:d
 
There are a few links provided in this thread about places to purchase mg scales.

I bought some from the ebay link I posted and they never arrived. After waiting a couple of months I purchased a set from the link in the OP. I'm still waiting on those to come in. It's been about a month since I ordered the 2nd set.

Someone said they purchased their set from Amazon but when they purchased theirs the scales were only $28.00. Now they are $45. They said they received them in a few days.

If I had it do over again I would have paid the extra money and went with Amazon. That patience thing is a bitch... :roll:
 
SWIM's extraction obviously went smoothly. Initially SWIM would have guessed way more than a gram scraped from the precip plate, (with 100 ML of still milky naptha after 10 hours of freezing). SWIM figured no big deal and decanted the still milky naptha. SWIM mixed this with the rest of the pulls and put it back in the freezer (for a couple of days). SWIM thinks much of the initial volume was naptha & now it is dried completely has lost significant weight. By eye shot SWIM thinks he remember that is what 1/3 of a gram of other white powdery stuff looks like.
