The American Revolution Began Sept. 17th

Migrated topic.
The wife and I are headed down to the Boston rally to drop off sleeping bags, granola bars and tarps.

Not planning to sleep out there...I gotta work tomorrow!...but I'm planning on trying to be down there 3-4 day's a week.

Just wanted to let people know that the anonymous message saying that they intend to shut down nyse.com is a hoax.

This is an official release from anonymous stating that they have no intentions on participating in the attacks and do not encourage anyone else to either.

Let's all try to keep the misinformation down to a minimum whenever possible.

This from the statement you linked:

I wouldn't be so quick to call this hoax. I do not often hear Anon use phrases like:

", and we are sincerely worried."

"...spare OccupyWallStreet the bad press."

Worried? Bad press? That's not the Anon I know. Guess we'll see how it plays out.

Looking into this. It's a rather elaborate hoax if so.

Yeah, I agree but with the amount of attention this movement is getting, it's not really surprising. I don't really see how shutting down the site would really do a whole lot of good if it's even possible. With the trillions of dollars at their disposal, you can bet they've invested quite a large sum into their security measures.

I agree with the news link I posted in that this kind of attack will only cause more harm than good. It's bad press for the cause and will only lead to more arrests for amateur wanna be hackers who don't know how to properly cover their tracks.

You're right, I was quick to judge. I don't follow Anon that close but I can agree with some of the points made. As you said, we'll just have to wait and see.

THIS, however, sounds much more like them.

I don't follow these guys much either - but it will be interesting to see LEO's are behind the hoax. Really interesting in fact. I was kinda wondering why LOIC was on sourceforge... ;=/

Pictures from last night in Boston. Not very clear it was dark and raining...

I hear today Boston got a large boost as more students staged a walk out and 5 bus loads of nurses (union..??) showed up as well.

Nice, joedirt!!

<3 <3 <3

Hope to get some better pictures this weekend...perhaps some video as well. I admire the people willing to sleep out there in the rain! I can't do that so I just try and donate to the cause as much as I can. Hopefully this weekend I can spend a little time out there protesting to help beef up the numbers.

Peace

That's awesome Joedirt! Thanks for sharing the pics and showing support! :D

Jacksonville is getting some more media exposure about the rallies happening this and next weekend.

This video played tonight on the local news.

It's awesome to see more cities joining this movement.

Hell yeah...I didn't even know about Jacksonville! cities are adding fast!

In an effort to raise awareness on WHY the protesters are on Wall Street and occupying cities all around the world, I urge you to please read and share this far and wide.

Declaration of the Occupation of New York City

THIS DOCUMENT WAS ACCEPTED BY THE NYC GENERAL ASSEMBLY ON SEPTEMBER 29, 2011

As we gather together in solidarity to express a feeling of mass injustice, we must not lose sight of what brought us together. We write so that all people who feel wronged by the corporate forces of the world can know that we are your allies.

As one people, united, we acknowledge the reality: that the future of the human race requires the cooperation of its members; that our system must protect our rights, and upon corruption of that system, it is up to the individuals to protect their own rights, and those of their neighbors; that a democratic government derives its just power from the people, but corporations do not seek consent to extract wealth from the people and the Earth; and that no true democracy is attainable when the process is determined by economic power. We come to you at a time when corporations, which place profit over people, self-interest over justice, and oppression over equality, run our governments. We have peaceably assembled here, as is our right, to let these facts be known.

They have taken our houses through an illegal foreclosure process, despite not having the original mortgage.
They have taken bailouts from taxpayers with impunity, and continue to give Executives exorbitant bonuses.
They have perpetuated inequality and discrimination in the workplace based on age, the color of one’s skin, sex, gender identity and sexual orientation.
They have poisoned the food supply through negligence, and undermined the farming system through monopolization.
They have profited off of the torture, confinement, and cruel treatment of countless animals, and actively hide these practices.
They have continuously sought to strip employees of the right to negotiate for better pay and safer working conditions.
They have held students hostage with tens of thousands of dollars of debt on education, which is itself a human right.
They have consistently outsourced labor and used that outsourcing as leverage to cut workers’ healthcare and pay.
They have influenced the courts to achieve the same rights as people, with none of the culpability or responsibility.
They have spent millions of dollars on legal teams that look for ways to get them out of contracts in regards to health insurance.
They have sold our privacy as a commodity.
They have used the military and police force to prevent freedom of the press. They have deliberately declined to recall faulty products endangering lives in pursuit of profit.
They determine economic policy, despite the catastrophic failures their policies have produced and continue to produce.
They have donated large sums of money to politicians, who are responsible for regulating them.
They continue to block alternate forms of energy to keep us dependent on oil.
They continue to block generic forms of medicine that could save people’s lives or provide relief in order to protect investments that have already turned a substantial profit.
They have purposely covered up oil spills, accidents, faulty bookkeeping, and inactive ingredients in pursuit of profit.
They purposefully keep people misinformed and fearful through their control of the media.
They have accepted private contracts to murder prisoners even when presented with serious doubts about their guilt.
They have perpetuated colonialism at home and abroad. They have participated in the torture and murder of innocent civilians overseas.
They continue to create weapons of mass destruction in order to receive government contracts. *

To the people of the world,

We, the New York City General Assembly occupying Wall Street in Liberty Square, urge you to assert your power.

Exercise your right to peaceably assemble; occupy public space; create a process to address the problems we face, and generate solutions accessible to everyone.

To all communities that take action and form groups in the spirit of direct democracy, we offer support, documentation, and all of the resources at our disposal.

Join us and make your voices heard!

*These grievances are not all-inclusive.

Protesting against corporate greed, an unfair tax system, failing social and medical care, etc...isn't that anti-american? Isn't that socialism, communism, marxism and thus fascism  in the eye of joe average?

I thought greed was good?
What's happening to the good american value of just doing what you're told and shutting-up? Isn't that what made america the 'greatest nation'?

What's next: nuclear disarmement? legalising hippie-mariage? a socialist plan like good affordable education for everybody?

Be warned americans, you're almost becoming europeans.
Whatever happens, don't say sarah paling didn't warn you:wink:

I did enjoy reading the manifesto they've created, very well done. Already thinking of printing out hundreds of copies and handing it out.

Please do! That's a great idea. I'm going to have some printed up so we can pass them out at the Jax gathering this weekend.

I don't mean to double post, but I figured since so many people are watching this thread, it might help to bring some eyes to this thread.

I normally wouldn't do this but time is of the essence as the interview is tomorrow at 5:45am.

Thank you for any contributions and I apologize for the double post.

Was up occupying DC last weekend...partook in the protest against the new exhibit (funded entirely by defense agencies)on The History of use of UAVs or "Drones" by the US military, which resulted in many pepper sprayed protesters and bystanders as well as the shutting down of the Air and Space Museum.

This thing is growing and will continue to grow. I'll share pics next week when I get a minute, I'm currently swamped helping to set up my local occupation.

PLEASE ANYONE WHO HAS A MOMENT, SIGN THIS PETITION. BLOOMBERG IS TRYING TO KICK ALL THE OWS PROTESTERS OUT OF ZUCCOTTI PARK UNDER THE PRETEXT OF CLEANING.

EMERGENCY CALL TO ACTION: Prevent the forcible closure of Occupy Wall Street!
Posted Oct. 13, 2011, 2:14 p.m. EST by OccupyWallSt

Tell Bloomberg: Don't Foreclose the Occupation.
Join us at 6AM FRIDAY for non-violent eviction defense.

Please take a minute to read this, and please take action and spread the word far and wide.

Occupy Wall Street is gaining momentum, with occupation actions now happening in cities across the world.

But last night Mayor Bloomberg and the NYPD notified Occupy Wall Street participants about plans to “clean the park”—the site of the Wall Street protests—tomorrow starting at 7am. "Cleaning" was used as a pretext to shut down “Bloombergville” a few months back, and to shut down peaceful occupations elsewhere.

Bloomberg says that the park will be open for public usage following the cleaning, but with a notable caveat: Occupy Wall Street participants must follow the “rules”. These rules include, "no tarps or sleeping bags" and "no lying down."

So, seems likely that this is their attempt to shut down #OWS for good.

PLEASE TAKE ACTION:

1) Call 311 and tell Bloomberg to support our right to assemble and to not interfere with #OWS. If you are calling from outside NY use this number 212-NEW-YORK.

2) Come to #OWS on FRIDAY AT 6AM to defend the occupation from eviction.

Occupy Wall Street is committed to keeping the park clean and safe — we even have a Sanitation Working Group whose purpose this is. We are organizing major cleaning operations today and will do so regularly.

If Bloomberg truly cares about sanitation here he should support the installation of portopans and dumpsters. #OWS allies have been working to secure these things to support our efforts.

We know where the real dirt is: on Wall Street. Billionaire Bloomberg is beholden to bankers.
We won't allow Bloomberg and the NYPD to foreclose our occupation. This is an occupation, not a permitted picnic.

Thanks for the heads up Snozz and for everything that you are doing behind the scenes and on the front lines.

I've been majorly swamped trying to get everything going here in Jacksonville too. This thing is definitely gaining steam and I'm meeting a lot of like minded folks who have simply had enough and are willing to do whatever they can to help.

The People, United, can NEVER be Defeated!!!

Also, I signed and shared the petition to several sites. Thanks again man!
