Quite literally, the hole in the machine, how the hell do you put it there?
Preface:
My Friend has been using a home made filtering flask vaporizor. A drawing is included at the bottom

He keeps the hot plate anywhere from 80-120 degrees Celcius while vaping, and has done it at up to about 200 celcius without any burning occuring as far as he saw, but he only tried that once.
He waits until he sees a bit of vapor floating around in the the flask and then punches a whole in the syran wrap and takes a deep pull through the siphon tubing, holds it in as long as possible, then covers flask again with aluminum to minimize vapor loss.
He continues doing so until spice is no longer tasted.
The problem is he has only gotten some interesting effects from this method but never broken through doing this, and there could be a variety of reasons:
1. Siphon hose is 5 mother effing feet long, but he uses it for other things as well so he doesnt want to cut it. Either way that seems like a long way to get the damn spice to travel, maybe its not all getting there
2. He notices condensation near the notch at the top of the funnel, maybe the spice is liquifying before it reaches him.

But regardless of that my friend has decided to try and make a machine in order to bypass all of that malarchy. The concept seems prety darn simple but there is one definte hang up for him he cannot afford, does not own , and does not know anyone who owns a glass drill. How can he effectively put a hole in the bottom of the bottle to inhale through? I suppose a hammer and a screwdriver could work but he forsees some possible broken glass and bleeding people everywhere.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

At a glance that 14 bucks for a glass drill bit would seem dirt cheap, but when we take a closer look at his budget its more like the "not enough work hours-eat ramen noodles for every meal-donate plasma to afford groceries-debt to my elbows" plan. So he was looking for a more MacGyver way to go about it, like taking some paper clips and rubberbands and making a laser cannon to cut through it. He I just want a clean cut look with no glass shards in his mouth when he tries to use it, at one point, maybe around payday he might have to break down and buy a glass drill bit. That just leaves the problem of finding a drill...damnit
:)

SWIM likes your idea, but...

The machine is called the machine because it is A MACHINE!!!

To make his, SWIM just (relatively) lightly tapped on the bottom of a glass bottle with a phillips screwdriver while it chipped away the glass in... well chips :D

This method works much better for the straw hole than the steel wool hole, steel wool should be in the neck in SWIMs mind (and experience) anyway.

SWIM made a small and jagged hole in the bottom, used electrical tape to seal the straw in.

Puff puff.... SWIM went WAY WAY farther than 60mg on the lightbulb vaporizer on only 35mg.

SWIM now uses a test tube with stopper and glass rod, he put a hole it using a pen + the floor :D

You need a drill, a very small piece of copper tubing, a bit of water and a bit of grit, a vice might also be helpful.

Use the copper tubing as a drill bit, use water or oil to lube the glass where you want to drill it, and the grit acts as an abrasive that will grind down the glass without breaking it.

However, after trying a bulb vaporizer, the machine, glass pipes with brillo etc...I have found that a bong is really the best way to smoke spice.

No need for any special drill bits for making the hole, just buy a bog standard one for wood or whatever (mine was about a decade old and blunt, but as long as you're careful and dont rush it, it'll be fine.) As you start to drill the hole.. the glass will make its own abrasive. Just remember to keep the dill at maximum rpm, as the tiny viberations it makes on higher speeds are less likely to crack the glass.

.. also! Improvise. There are thousands of different types of bottles and whatnot out there to design a machine from. I used a glass salt shaker that you'd find in any cafe, it cost me like 30 pence, its pretty much indistructable and allows me to breakthrough everytime I load it up. Its my portal to another dimension ;)

NO DRILLING necessary see my post here Ban the Bulb - Modify the Machine - First steps in Hyperspace - Welcome to the DMT-Nexus

If you do drill a wood bit is not very effective , masonry bit is best but not necessary you can punch the hole no drilling needed.

Hi,

I sat with my vodka short bottle and got a drill bit out of the toolbox that was roughly the same size as a cigarette in terms of circumference.

I put some family guy on the tv and just sat there manually twisting the drill bit against the glass bottom with moderate pressure. After 5-10 minutes it had formed a pit in the glass so that I could feel that I was 'drilling' in the same place. Every few minutes I'd tap the spot with the drill bit to punch through it a bit and then continue on. It only took about 30-45 minutes before the hole was complete (albeit my hand ached a little). I then washed it out throughly with water to get rid of any residual glass dust/shards, stuffed some steel wool in the end and burned it for ages, and then it was good to go!

Made me remember, I read somewhere that you could actually cut glass under water with a strong pair of scissors. Somehow the water would reduce the vibrations in the glass and not making it crack. I haven't tried it myself but i suppose you could use any drill and just keep the bottle under water.
