The Nexian Magazine

Migrated topic.

So, are you counting with an article about growing jurema? Or did ringworm delay jurema until issue #2? :)

Sure, go ahead on it. Counting on you for Jurema then, and we have the Enthno section filled.

Will do a page on Psycotria propagation and yours on Jurema. Perfect !

Great idea. I see it as an outreach to the wider world. The content of the magazine will be a flavour of the Nexus for all to see and understand. Could we have a poetry section with the art section? I'd love to contribute some poetry or maybe a meditation guide. This is such an awesome idea.

Peace

Macre

Would sure love to have some poetry in the art section. Meditation guides sound good too.

Edited and added Macre for poetry in the art section.

We definitely do not want to attract unwanted attention. I think for starters the Nexus is a good place for the magazine to be published, but it would also be nice to get it out into the world, to a good public ofc. I would surely like it to mirror the Nexus' attitude and discipline, stay mature and offer information.

Peace and love! Stay tuned and remember to check the first topic for updates :)

Poetry- perfect. I think that any creative fruits from our members have a valid place. Music and video features too. As an e-zine, we can fit in as much as our schedules permit.

As far as the larger world goes, we have to expect copies of this to filter out and be seen... So regardless of how far and wide we want to see this distributed, we will want to address Cyb's concerns. And we already try to do that with the site in general... Outreach and positive PR will always be part of the function of what we do here. We are already quite eminently findable on the web... We just need to keep up the positive efforts. I personally don't think we should expect too much of a flood of idiots... Steady growth seems to be the general trend here, and so far the occasional surges have been manageable.

Also, no doubt this will start small, and depending on the reaction from the psychedelic community, we may go a variety of different directions from there. But I agree: first and foremost, a perk for members.

Thought Nachos is my favorite magazine of all time. That's not saying much since I don't really read magazines, but it is exactly what I always expected a psychedelic magazine to be like.

Anyways, I would really like to contribute to a Nexian magazine, but I don't know where I would be useful. I could fill a gap where someone is needed. I could write an article on new physics/technology, but I'm not really clear on how I would connect that to DMT or the Nexus. Otherwise, I most enjoy writing on metaphysical topics and consciousness as it pertains to the psychedelic experience, but I don't know where the line is between that and "Trip Reports" which are already accounted for. Instead of having people write articles, you could just cut and paste monologues from the forum. This magazine could almost write itself.

Right now I see a LOT of people wanting to contribute to this project, so there probably wouldn't be space for my contribution anyway.

I actually just had a great idea that would allow more people to contribute. If this magazine is to become a regular thing, we could divide contributors into N teams that each produce an issue every N months, so that there would be a new issue of the magazine ready every month. Just a suggestion.

Can't wait to see this project unfold 😁

You can always contribute as long as its related to the psychedelic community. We will keep the magazine for once every 3 months for now, because as I already found out, it involves quite a lot of focus and energy from a fairly large number of people. So I would say lets keep quality over quantity and go steady and surely.

Peace and love :)

For the ethno garden section, if that's ok, it just makes sense to write something about jurema. It's an easy plant to ID and grow, and she deserves some lovin'. Tricky to keep it under two pages, because it would be nice to have a 1/2 page piece written by a user who has a good relationship for the plant introduced. Iracema would fit great here. Or jamie.

I can contribute researching the traditional folk use of mimosas and describing the ecosystem of these plants (to help cultivators simulate natural conditions), also take some pictures to illustrate the article, or anything more.
What are the deadlines?
We are currently in carnival season here in Brazil, I'm with a few guests in my house, then I'll be absent until next wednesday.
Later on I can begin to put pieces together.

^^^ what she said.

We'll both work in the piece.

Iracema, a couple pictures of the tree in its natural habitat would be great, I'll bring some of early germination and growth stages and we'll see how we put together the writing.

Thank you :)

Can we use a couple pages?

Being an e-zine, I don't see a need for length limitations. No paper to run out of!
If that's the case, I have a (rather long) document that I would be willing to submit for the "environmental" section if no one else has anything. I'm not sure what angle people were hoping to have for that section. My piece is an introductory analysis of the State's definition of "ecological terrorism."

If it doesn't fit, that's cool...just thought I'd offer 😉

That Thought Nachos zine is fun and all...but looks amateurish and trashy.
I would like to see this layed out in a much more professional way.

Pick up one of those modern fashion mags, ie 'Interview' from the shops and emulate their style.
It's much easier to read and view when the text and visuals are thoughtfully layed out.

Consistent fonts/kerning/leading and justification for the body txt is preferable too although headers can get creative.

Perhaps all txt submitted for articles should be standardised to prevent too many overlapping formats....
Let's say plain txt for submissions..
Formatting can be done later with page wide Styles...

:)

Nice, I should have something completed over the weekend. Plus, I've finally got a new job so I can buy canvas and paints, so I can contribute paintings in later issues (and share them in the Art Bin of course). This is a fantastic project.

Peace

Macre

Good to know about that article Snozz, will keep it in mind.

Its not about running out of paper or anything, I just wanted to put a 'page limit' and fill that in first, see how that goes and then go bigger. There is no hurry to put everything in it and make it HUGE.

I always say quality is above quantity, so lets fill the basics for this number and see how it goes. I am also excited but I don't want it to be a one-time thing, if we publish 80 pages the first issue we will have to keep that standard or go bigger, that would be a lot of work ( first of all for me, then for all the contributors ) over a 3 months time.

Great input anyway. Will definitely keep everything in mind, ideas are always welcomed :)

Peace and love.

Later edit: Questions for the interview go here!

Well then, as was mentioned in chat, I'm happy to cut it up into three or four parts and spread it out over as many issues. :)

JourneyToJah

I would really love to contribute to the Tourism section of the magazine, as I could write up a piece about a trip that I took to India, I also have some lovely pictures to add.

Much Peace and Understanding
