It is a common question that people ask, if a certain chemical is OK to use for extraction or not, and also where to find such and such chemical. Instead of cluttering up the forum with hundreds of threads about it, those who have these question can post here (and threads made with such questions will be merged here).

But before asking such questions, here's a few important links you should THOROUGHLY read:

FAQ: Is my solvent/chemical OK to use ?

Ok im trying to wrap my head around this solvent djungle.

First of all I want to have at least 2L, but seems [Redacted by Mod], not sure about how cool it is to[Redacted by Mod]. ("For learning purpose")

So could someone in Scandinavia guide me how to [Redacted by Mod], and what kind? Naphtha? n-heptan? Lighter liquid? petroleum ether 40/60?

Kind regards,
A/L

No synthesis talk that uses dangerous/watched chemicals and procedures

Discussion of simple safe non-commercial synthesis not requiring watched chemicals are tolerated (example: the reduction of DMT N-oxide to DMT with zinc, or the supposed LSA-to-LSH conversion).

Members who have been given the chemical expert status, indicated by the flask icon, are allowed to discuss these topics at their own discretion for harm reduction purposes. Also a reminder to these flask holders: be aware of your knowledge.

Through a friend I have access to Calcium Hydroxide without having to purchase any. However, I got him to get a hold of the MSDS sheet and it calls out 'Calcium Hydroxide (90–94%, CAS 1305-62-0). Silicon Dioxide (0.1–1.0%, CAS 14808-60-7).' This would be used for CIELO with cacti.

Any thoughts or experience with .1-1.0% Silicon Dioxide causing issues in CIELO? Found a few posts while searching Lime for q21q21 or help reading an MSDS, The Lime Conspiracy (Q21Q21), and Page 18 of this post. Though wasn't much constructive between the three.

I can seek out an alternate that has MSDS of only Calcium Hydroxide but figured to inquire first.

Silicon dioxide is what glass is made out of, and sand. About twelve percent of Earth's crust is silicon dioxide. Can only speculate how it got into the product, but it's nothing to worry about.

It's probably a minor component of the chalk or limestone from which the lime was formed, maybe from sand, radiolarian skeletons or similar, or maybe hydrothermal mineral deposition. Chalk sometimes will be associated with flint, another natural source of (impure) silica.
