125g mhrb

using at least 250ml hydrochloric/water solution with a ph of 4, repeated 3x's

125g pickling lime mix with water untill ph of 9-12-14 is achieved

(now assuming the above is okay this is where blanks are drawn)

125ml Naptha for 1st pull...?

???ml Naptha for 2nd pull.

???ml Naptha for 3rd pull.

Im not sure about lime... It is not very soluble in water, I think it might not work well in A/B. I never used it myself though, maybe others have experience and will be able to give you better feedback. In any case if you read the extraction tek section in the Nexus WIKI, you'll see teks using lime are usually dry teks (for example amor fati's nontoxic approach or q21's tek ) . So maybe either change that to a dry tek, or use another base like NaOH, KOH or sodium carbonate (though sodium carbonate not being a very strong base might greatly increase chances of emulsions)

I also see no need to use HCl. It definitely wont hurt, I know a lot of people use it without any problem, but I rather use something like vinegar, results will be the same and I preffer wrking with it. Do as you wish though.

Lastly, you are making way too big naphtha pulls. 100-150ml naphtha would be enough to pull twice or 3 times that much bark. If you use that much naphtha, it wont be saturated enough with dmt so freeze precipitation wont work, you would have to evap a lot before, which would be a waste. IMO better use, say, half that amount of naphtha, make warm pulls, and make more pulls, maybe 5 or something (or just keep pulling until there is no more dmt crashing out in the freeze precipitation).

Reuse the naphtha after you retrieve the crystals when freezing, and in the last pull, after freezing and retrieving the crystals, evap it till the end to see if there is any more dmt in the naphtha.

okay thanks, that clears things up about the naptha

but in the handbook it uses sodium hydroxide to basify to ph12 or higher

in Q21 it uses lime to basify, and this site on the web says lime achieves a ph of 12. http://www.miamisci.org/ph/hhoh.html (pretty nice chart btw)

so a substitution of one high ph for another high ph is what one was pondering, but barrowingtime is still a Spirit so i don't doubt endlessness knowledge.

Edit: actually KOH is a nice base, but the question here is, is it watched any at all like lye?

The monkey used a pickling lime tek recently - Q21's - and it worked well. All ingredients bought from grocery store, so its pretty much under the radar. But as endlessness says, it seems to work better in a dry tek, rather than a normal wet A/B ... the monkey used vinegar, but far less liquid than SWIY. Check out Q21'a tek

KOH is watched like a mofo unfortunately.

but listen to this, using part handbook, part Q21's,

instead of pouring the Caustic Soda solution into the "bark tea", pour the amount of lime specified by Q21's into the mix of bark tea,

and do the step Q's way then bounce back to the handbook.

I believe this is what i was trying to ask earlier but didn't know lime was not soluble.

What do you all think? could this be some kind of tek hybrid?
