Hey hysterix , from that msds it appears to be 99% . That's more than good enough , and is as good as you will get off the shelf without going LR grade . Think of it this way , you have half the impurities of the 98% version which has worked well enough for others .
Not sure lye is the only thing in that, that msds may only show harmful chemicals not sure. But lye has a definate smell to it when added to water...that label says it dont smell. and with lye i dont think a product would say to add hot water. Many specifically say use cold water. Call the company, nothing on that msds says its 100% lye. You want lye...not just any drain cleaner, im thinkin you know that but most labels will say specifically 100% lye.
Hey extrememetal,
that smell ain't caustic soda dude , thats the smell of your nose decomposing and saponifying as caustic soda escapes in water droplets and burns the inside of your nose as you're sniffing . Keep the sniffing to a minimum.
Thanks for the responses guys. The reason why I chose this brand is I found an extremely abundant supply in my area. I think it should be fine; but what had me nervous is the pieces of the lye in this brand are flakes instead of white powder like I had last time.
