Toluene?

Migrated topic.
In many parts of the USA it's almost impossible to find toluene. It’s been pretty much replaced by xylene.

KleanStrip is the best brand IF if you can actually find it in your part of the USA. It all depends on where you are. Where I am, it's impossible to get locally. I've looked at all the paint and hardware stores. None of them have even heard of it.

I see it at ace hardware, available as their store brand. An alternative is D-limonene. Although I've never seen it for sale in a store, it can be found for $40ish a gallon online. Toluene smells exactly like model glue and can give you a bad headache and maybe even attract attention from neighbors.

D-Limo smells like oranges and isn't bad for you if you happen to ingest a little bit.

In my area Ace Hardware has NO TOLUENE at all. I checked all of them nearby. They've apparently never carried it. None of the personnel even heard of it. Maybe it’s banned locally?

D-limonene is MUCH BETTER than toluene. Its thousands of times healthier. People have been eating d-limonene for centuries. It’s present in lemons, oranges, etc., and in pretty big quantities. Orange oil is mostly D-limonene, and that’s used to flavor foods, candies, drinks, etc.

D-limonene has solvent properties that are very similar to toluene, so it can easily replace it in most techs.
