ooh yay! filesystem indexing, that's like the first thing at the very top of my list of important shit i need to iron out before i choose my OS, cause oh god the ext3 filesystem might be way too stable for me, and none of my games will run unless i got the ubergawdly ext4 filesystem! :d trolling is fun - fedora is the easiest to install alpha release that'll make any noob feel l33t for knowing how to download an iso 8)

Btw just for completeness I replaced the RAM and the IRQL_LESS_NOT_EQUAL problem went away.

noob... ubuntu is a linux distribution, one of several.
many distros can run the same linux programs, because they're all free.

cinelerra is one of the well-known video editing progs that doesn't cost a leg.
it's free.

Dunno about any of that fancy-schmancy stuff you can do with Ubuntu or Fedora but I got Ubuntu running on a broken HDD so I guess I'll go with that. Havent used any type of linux since mandrake over 7 years so it'll take me some time to get used to this

Any software I definitely should install? Im going to be using this laptop at school a lot so I guess I need to get some proper C++ programming software
