Hey all
If you have done DMT you are aware of its power and if you have broken through you know that it's much more then a drug but recently a friend of mine says he is going to try DMT, now he has no prior use of psychs and really doesn't understand what it's all about
I tried telling him about the power of DMT but it gets you only so far
I was just wondering how you guys handle it when someone says they are going to use DMT for all the wrong reasons

What is right, what is wrong? Is anything wrong, cause I say so? I believe not. Let people gather their own experience. At least that's what I think about this. But I'm sure, that other people might have other views on this matter.

If someone tells me they are going to use DMT period i explain to them:

Dose sizes and what each size usually provides

Best techniques for proper vaporization

Set and setting

Safety

The rest is up to them. If it sounds like they are going to be reckless with it i say "good luck!". There is nothing else to tell them. That is all that one needs to know. She usually sorts it out on her own.

I have been using the Magic for a couple of years and I have no idea what its all about:surprised.

I think as long as your friend isn't snorting lines of DMT while doing handstands on top of a train then he is gonna be fine, the Magic tends to weed out those who aren't suited quite quickly.

would you mind stating what these wrong reasons are?

Doing it at a party because he thinks its going to make him see cool shit, i can honestly see that ending really badly

well its definitely going to make him see cool stuff and I agree it could end badly.

but I don't think there is a proper way to use DMT, and I think that it is your idea of correct use that he is going against.

I know people who would never take LSD recreationally but I am more than happy to dance myself silly at a rave, or bounce around a party off my pickle on acid.

Am I wrong to use acid in this way because some people think it isn't the correct use for the substance? The answer is, no, im not.

Personally I couldn't take DMT at a crazy house party, but if people want to then they can fill there boots.

what do you think are the right reasons to use the Magic?

I agree with anrchy, you can only tell the person what it is about and be sure that he knows what he is getting into. Unfortunately you can't do more than that.

Personally I think doing dmt at a party is a bad idea, but that's just me. Hopefully he won't hurt himself and realize that a safer environment is a better idea. I think the bottom line is using common sense.

If you want him to consider what you seem to think is a more responsible approach, have him read some "bitch slap" dmt reports... might change his tune... or just let him toke up and find out for himself.

dmt is contingent on set and setting. huge part of it, i feel. if we meticulously prepared our selves and environments, I feel it is a huge boost in the right direction.

it's like a tumbler lock, turning the numbers into their correct positions.

surely there's no 'right' or "wrong" way to use it, but it does deserve a healthy amount of respect. i know many here can vouch.

There's a reason why DMT can be so transformative, and I feel that part of that has to do with how you can enter with certain intentions but ultimately DMT may serve up something completely paradigm shifting. If he gets a significant experience, it might not matter what he expects to get out of it because it will likely show him something completely different. This isn't a guarantee, but I've seen it happen numerous times. If he's interested enough, I say let him take it, and where the winds take him - so be it.

[edit]: didn't see the party reference.

The only wrong reason I could see, is if he were wanting to take it with the intention to cause harm to others. Clearly wanting to see cool shit at a party does not encompass that.

I personally wouldn't be able to handle it at a party. Any kinds of movement or random noises ruin it for me. Although i do know someone who was hanging out with a group of 8 or so drinking and passing around a pipe with dmt in it. They all enjoyed it.

Only problem i see there is that they are missing out on a real good experience. If you take it too seriously it will pain you to see people using it against your own ideals.

Most random sounds have always tended to anchor me, or abruptly pull me closer to baseline reality from te other side. Although soft n melodic/uplifting, non lyrical music has always done wonders in meshing with the experience, facilitating some pretty transformative experiences.

To the OP: In the end, your friend can do whatever he wishes, as he's his own person. Although if he/she's looking to ultimately benefit from this molecule in the best ways possible, set and setting is a great factor, although not primarily influencing in the long run of the experience, it WILL work with what you give it..nothing more nothing less.

Personally I've given up on trying to dictate anyone else's usage of the medicine and have switched to a harm reduction approach, any time anyone drops the letters DMT in my presence I strongly encourage them to head on over to the DMT nexus and read through the FAQ and learn how to use it safely and responsibly. Basically all we can do at this point is try to spread the education as quickly as the molecule.

This is exactly the stance I've taken as well. Lately people have been coming to me asking me about DMT and other psychedelics and I just try to point them in the "right" direction; meaning the path of harm minimization, research, healthy respect, etc.

I'm sure many of us here have used psychedelics at one time or another for the "wrong" reasons. That usually is how people get started with any sort of drug. There is so much misinformation and fairytale BS about drugs that people have all these ridiculous ideas and half-truths.

If you stick with something like DMT for long enough I think it tends to lead you in the "right" direction. Most people just have to make that journey for themselves and all you can do is try to give them a little helping hand along the way.

This is essentially what I do as well.

If someone is asking me to share an experience with them, it is a little different. I am very selective about who I share with, for practical reasons. The primary motivation for these reasons is minimization of risks, for myself and others. My reasons are:

-The extractions I perform in my home are not something I want everyone and their sister to know about (obviously).

-If I shared with everyone I know, I would have nothing left for myself. This may seem selfish, but I do not take the risk of performing extractions in my home as a favor for someone else. I gladly share experiences with those that I love and trust, but if I were to share with everyone who I have ever heard express interest I would have to be performing extractions much more frequently. This would create an added risk that I would much rather avoid.

-Although I am not a professional psychologist, I do have some education in psychology. I do not share experiences with anyone who I believe to be mentally unstable or disturbed to a significant extent.

That being said, another person's intention is none of my business. I will usually share with people when they are at my house or (less frequently) when I am at theirs, but I am very hesitant to give anything to someone to take elsewhere with them.
