Using DMT for the wrong reasons

Migrated topic.

Hey all
If you have done DMT you are aware of its power and if you have broken through you know that it's much more then a drug but recently a friend of mine says he is going to try DMT, now he has no prior use of psychs and really doesn't understand what it's all about
I tried telling him about the power of DMT but it gets you only so far
I was just wondering how you guys handle it when someone says they are going to use DMT for all the wrong reasons

I don't know what the wrong reasons might be, but i think that some people try it for no reason. I would always leave it up to the person but explain the importance of set, setting, and dosage like others have already stated. I would also recommend that they get prior experience, not necessarily to lessen the shock on the mind, but so they have a little experience making sense of the trip. If someone was determined to try it, who am i to stop them? but i recommended prior experience just so they might be able to identify with themselves after such an intense out of body experience and not be confused by new views.
Just encourage informed decision making and the rest is up to the person ;)

I'm not sure that's even possible. I mean if there is absolutely no reason at all for them to try it, then why would they?

Do you mean trying it without a specific intention? What better reason than curiosity and exploration? :)

I have to be honest. While I appreciate the potency of this substance.. I think there's a 'forbidden fruit' mentality that has been engrained into users and the culture. I appreciate the long history of the use of the substance, but I think the whole spiritual aspect and I guess, 'sacred' element of it has been diminished by the fact that it is such a damn fun drug to use.

I know some people who think they are some kind of chosen few because they enjoy using DMT. Like it's not attainable for the average joe. I'm the average joe. I love it.
I'll never discourage anyone from using it. I will encourage a sensible, build up approach. Simply because they might get a fright from using it. As long as people understand the effects and are not thinking it's just like ripping a bong of good bud, because the amount of times I've heard that people were 'tripping balls' off two cones of a nice indica strain is ridiculous. If they understand and consent to the use of it, I think anyone is going to be fine.

I suppose I should have worded that better to mean no specific intention. I'm not sure what I was thinking of when I writ that part hehe

I think psychedelics, especially dmt, should be used with the proper respect is where I should have stopped. sometimes I just keep typing until I look dumb haha sorry

This is really a matter of subjectivity. I see DMT taking on a different experiential quality than the classic psychedelic trip, and for that reason I personally would advise against a party atmosphere as well. My go to place is the woods; when it's cold, my room provides a nurturing environment. Just calmly speak with him, tell him your honest experience and the precautions to take, and then hope he takes it seriously. There seems to be a fail safe with DMT, as those who wish to gain insight usually do and those who want to get a cool 'high' end up clutching the covers frantically looking for an end to the eternity before them. The later I've seen only once before in a friend who later recounted his ordeal to me. He described it as utterly terrifying, and he was apparently attempting to grab a hold of anything tangible in panic during the whole thing.

But it was ultimately his decision to think of it as another substance to get fucked up on.

Are you responding to only the OP or to the whole thread? Because the general consensus of the thread seems to be somewhere along the lines of "give him some idea of what he's getting himself into, and let him decide for himself what the right reasons are". To me that doesn't portray any sort of "forbidden fruit mentality". If anything it demonstrates the exact opposite.

Just thinking out loud.

I'm not trying to criticize, just trying to understand what you meant by your statement.

That's a fair call. It was a bit incoherent as far as the thread goes. I agree that nobody discouraged the OP or his friend, I like that. I like the collective attitude of the members here.
