Using Ionized Water

I was curious if anyone has ever tried using ionized water either in place of, or in addition to any of the extraction teks. As you may or may not know, these devices alter the PH level of the water to various levels, however I am not sure if they would ever achieve the basicity needed, or if it would actually "hold" that PH level long enough (some people theorize it is nearly instantaneous, however from PH tests done, it is around 1 day that it will remain alkalized). It seems to me that if this was effective, it would surely be the cleaner solution, especially if you could run it through a reverse osmosis or distiller previous to ionizing it, which does raise another question however... Water ionizers need the source water to contain minerals, so if you were to purify your water using reverse osmosis (changing the PH level of the water to acidic, at least on any unit normal people can afford) and then through a re-mineralizer, which typically adds coral calcium. In the end you would surely have some extra minerals left over, that would be white, and otherwise indistinguishable, I would assume. I guess at least it would typically be pure calcium this way, vs. what jah only knows is in our tap water... Hopefully I'm not completely way off base here, and I look forward to reading any comments positive or otherwise as to whether it is even worth the time to bother with such a setup. /me

Ummm I don't follow your chemistry ? - "Ionized" water would not be good to use. "Ions" are dissolved minerals that carry a charge, including calcium (Ca2+), H+ (from acid) and OH- from lye. If it's not an "ion" it won't be charged (+ or -) and won't be dissolved in water - it'll be a cloudy, opaque solution. do you mean "deionized" water..? this is what you get from running reverse-osmosis purification on it. Deionized water is the same as distilled or demineralized water, which is what one always ought to use in an extraction tek. I thought ionized water implies it contains mineral-ions dissolved in it, that's all. And so "ionized' water this is not what one would use in an extraction tek. During an A-B extraction, we add the ions of H+, Na+, Cl- and OH- to "deionized" water, but no other ions should get in there.

it's not "my" chemistry, it's just the way the device works...it produces alkaline water, with varying degree's of PH, depending on the settings you use. it also produces acidic water, which is typically discarded. i am unaware whether or not the water would have a charge or not. but you seem to indicate that it might, so perhaps this device should be avoided.

Do you mean one of these; Water ionizer - Wikipedia "Ionized" and alkaline water: snake oil on tap if you read the second of the two links it gives quite a few details which suggest the results of running water through an ioniser would be no better than just using deionised water and adding pure hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide. The general opinion on these boards seems to be that whilst the quality of acid or alkali used makes a difference (i.e. no soap or other cleaning agents, just the acid / alkali on its own) using deionised water is a waste of money. I don't think a water ioniser would help. [/url]

yeah, i've read all the de-bunk stuff before. fact remains the ph level remains stable for around 24 hours. not to sound like a commercial here but... Sounds more like psuedo science than a commercial to me. What that very impressive sounding sentance means is that the machine is capable of producing water with the same pH as one particular spring somewhere in france. I can say the same thing about my ph paper; 'My PH paper helps create water that is scientifically enhanced to match the activated hydrogen and alkaline chemical structure of the world-famous water of Lourdes, France' And it is just as true. In fact i can produce water with the same ph as spring water from anywhere on the planet (just tell me the ph first)! Of course the ph paper only works if i stick other chemicals in there as well, but then so does the electrolysis machine (doesn't work on pure water). Machines like this remind me of such things as those air ionisers (or air deionisers you can buy from the same places!), magnetic bracelets, astrology, etc. All produced by people able to make something complicated enough sounding that it seems good if you don't understand it.
