Warning about mullein

Migrated topic.

I have not seen this mentioned anywhere so I figured I'd throw it out and let people make up their own minds. From what I've read, mullein contains rotenone, a compound known for 2 things: killing insects and causing Parkinson's disease.

Now, it would take massive doses to actually cause Parkinson's right away, and if you were to smoke a normal-sized amount of mullein, you'd be fine the next day. But, in theory, every small dose of rotenone would be eating away at a certain group of neurons in your brain (called the substantia nigra), and when enough of these neurons die, you start to experience the symptoms of Parkinson's.

Since these neurons die slowly through normal life, smoking mullein would only increase your likelihood of getting it later on down the line. But still, not worth the risk IMO. Parkinson's is not a good way to go.

Mulleins a damn good herb...
why be so afraid?

I've heard this before and it still doesn't bother me to occasionally work with this plant for respiratory issues.

Eauropeans have been using mullein for a very very long time forhealing. I am studying herbal medicine at school and there are lots of case studies using mullein for a variety of illnesses with great success.

There isnt even enough Rotenone if any to hurt fish in the leaves of mullein. Native peoples have been found to use only the SEEDS of mullein to temporarily stun fish..but never any other part of the plant..

Wikipedia is also very iffy on lots of things...

I dont smoke mullein anymore personally but onyl becasue I dont really enjoy it..but I always stayed away from the flowers becasue they hold the seed pods and was worried about rotenone possibly in the flowers..

Mullein tea is nice..very good for the back as it helps lubricate the spine.

would you mind going into a little more detail, please?
i have some serious chest congestion going on right now, and i've been wanting to try mullein...but am not sure how much to start with or if i should make a tea, ect.
i tried searching around online, but haven't found any info on preparations and doseages.
thanks!

^mullein works as an expectorant..it gets fluids moving in the body..hence why it is good for the spine..

When you smoke it it helps mucos to move and be expelled from the lungs and throat etc..where all that shit from smoking and such gets trapped...

After smoking mullein you may find that you are coughing and hacking alot for the next day..and black crap may be comming up with it..its a cleansing thing though so dont be worried.

I dont like the taste of smokng it..but it works, but I like tea better. I just make tea with a few spoonfulls of leaf in a coffee machine.
