Water PH for aya.

Good day lovely people.

I have spent much time over the last year or so researching about Ayahuasca, and finally am on the cusp of making it!

I have one question though. I am aware that the best water for brewing has a PH of 3-4, and is distilled. I cannot however afford this distilled water and wouldn't know where to get it from anyway. SO, I have a lot of spring water which says on the bottle the water is 7.9. Does anyone know how much vinegar I should add to sufficiently acidify this?

I am looking to start brewing tonight as my capauri caapi has arrived pre-shredded, and I don't want it to lose potency...

what about simple tap water? In any case, just add a pinch of vinegar and youre ready to go. Caapi itself is slightly acidic so it will already change the pH of the water. Vinegar will make it taste worse but it will guarantee its acidic enough. In the amazon, indigenous people dont add acid, though maybe your water is a bit on the high pH side so a bit of vinegar wont hurt.

Even pH 6 would already be low enough if you take in account the harmala's pKa (at pH 6, 99% of harmine will be in salt form and therefore totally water soluble), or 5 if you want to be very thorough, but pH 3 will probably be nasty to ingest unless you neutralize it with some sodium carbonate later on before drinking (though apparently orange juice is pH 3 so that pH isnt necessarily bad, but still ayahuasca already doesnt taste nice by itself, so if you can avoid acidifying it strongly, it will only serve for the happiness of your taste buds and stomach :D )

So, just to give you a (quite arbitrary) number here so you have an idea, you could mix vinegar with water in a 1:5 proportion and it should be plenty.
 
So you think tap water as opposed to spring water? Will it not have some nasties in it?

Also, my admixture is mimosa, is there anything to keep in mind here or do I brew it up the same?

ALSO (as I am clearly in the presence of someone who knows what they are talking about lol), I am going to brew up 250g of the caapi, and 25g of mimosa, so have plenty to experiment with. Thoughts?

Well I dont know what your tap water is like.. Is it drinkable? If so, I dont see what 'nasties' can be in it that will affect the ayahuasca brewing...

Regarding mimosa and caapi, I would suggest you do the following: Brew them separately (in the same way, 3x boils, filtering and adding fresh water+vinegar each time). Then, first time you consume, only take the caapi. Drink around 40g.. The ideal is that you find your caapi dosage first, which is when you feel its effects (light-headedness, slight change in perception, etc) but not without having excessive effects (very dizzy, very difficult to walk, etc). So once you find that ideal dosage, next time drink the caapi and the mimosa together (or one just after the other), maybe start with 3g mimosa.

I say this because, lets say for some reason your caapi is very strong, and your mimosa is too weak, or whatever. If you just brew them together, you wont be able to change that afterwards. So better find the potency for your batch and then you can enjoy in the right measure :)

OK, so i have some rice vinegar... I tasted it, and it tastes very acidic. Would this work? I have 250 ml of it (says on the back acidity 5%). Would this be enough?

I really appreciate your time, I just really want to get this right :)
