A year or so ago I acquired 500g of 'white caapi' which I hadn't touched until last weekend.

Boiled it x5 times starting at 4 hrs and the last 2 being 12hr simmers. Boiled resulting tea down to 600ml. Took a sip to 'say hi' to the vine.

I took 100ml for extraction and added some sodium carbonate solution and the solution turned black, but nothing crashed out. So made some lye solution and added a little of that, just in case. Again nothing.

I am now concerned that what I have is not caapi. Something should have crashed out. I have done this a few times before, I know how it should behave.

Whatever it is potentiated or synergised with the space cake I had eaten earlier. Ended up in some fairly lucid between sleep state that was quite pleasant. Thing is I don't want my first experiences with tea to not be what I thought it was!

Any ideas as to what this may be? It's still very woody even after days in the slow cooker. May just work with rue until I have the time to invest in brewing vine again. I'll post some pics when I get back from work in 9hrs.

Any help much appreciated.

this rings a bell with me, i think i may have had this happen, i could be wrong but i will check my notes when i get home tmoz.

Thanks mate, I am wondering if it could be Alicia or something along those lines.

Hmm, interesting. My vine looks whiter than yours, but has a similar woodiness to it. Also the tea was quite a pale yellow / amber colour until I reduced it down, it's a dark earthy colour now. Black with added base.

I would like to work with this brew once I have a better idea of what it is - i have spent days preparing it, singing to it and making my house like a sauna reducing it. Maybe just take small amounts and work up? The account of someone drinking the brew and vaping cannabis sounds similar to my experience last night.

Finally got around to taking some pictures. The vine is still moist after boiling. The brown tea is just the reduced tea. The black is the basic solution. I wonder if I should try to pull with a solvent? :?

sorry Purges i was mistaken, i haven't extracted white vine.

i would filter the based soup to see if there is anything in it you cant see, i have had hard to see precipitate from a few vines that turned out not to be aya.

I've got it filtering at home now. Hopefully there's some precipitate in the filter when I get back!

Let us know how your brew turns out...hope you get precipitate, keep up the good work:)

I can understand your temptation to work with rue, but rue is very different from caapi imho, as I'm sure you are well aware. :) If you continue to get frustrated, or lack time brewing, I have successfully used a 'pure alkaloid caapi extract' for about the same price as 2 cups of gourmet coffee, very strong vine presence for most of the day when starting early, the difference caapi has over rue is that rue has less than 1% thh, while caapi contains similar levels of thh as it does harmine. The physical high-frequency vibrational energy and spiritual presence of a caapi brew is just not there with rue (a harsch teacher) as compared to the very loving and super ancient caapi, which has depictions of it on clay cups and pots since before 2000 B.C.

I have had something similar happen

bought white caapi, brewed slightly acidified with vinegar, based with lye, turned a deep black.. no precip.

tried this twice, once with 65g vine, another with 100g, both nothing

i suspect the vine to be Tetrapterys methystica, and will do a bioassay here in the next week :p

So i have heard. Others just feel rue is 'different'. I would like to work with and experience both as I feel they both potentially have a lot to offer.

So I filtered the basic solution and was left with a bit of slimy black stuff on the coffee filter. Dissolved that in vinegar and re-based a la gibran. No precipitation again. I'm thinking maybe this is just a young or low potency vine. Either that or I received the wrong plant.

Will assay a small amount soon and see.

So, I think I have figured out what went wrong. I didn't decant and filter the brew enough. Washed the coffee filter and re-based. There is now a small amount of harmala precipitation.

Can I re-acidify, filter filter filter and base again? Would this salvage it?

so I added a bunch of fumarate acid solution to the base solution and a bunch of stuff has crashed out. Which is odd. I'm going to filter it out and see if I can purify the precipitation, and also reduce and rebase the tea. Any thoughts on this precipitation? I thought harmala salts were water soluble.

I am sure they are water soluble. When I did this few days ago as soon as I added vinegar in the harmalas disappeared. Then I let the dirt settle and extracted the liquid. Exactly as in gibean2 tek but I used just vinegar. It worked nicely but yield was not very big as I rushed it too much.

Time for an update, I suppose. The caapi tea was re-acidified, boiled back down to a manageable amount, re-based and... A small amount of harmala precipitation. Not much at all though. So it's either weak vvine, or I made a mistake early on which drastically effected the outcome.

Luckily, some rue had presented its self, and 120mg extract and 1g tea was consumed, along with a couple of generous bowls of Changa. What followed was a wonderfully pleasurable experience. Felt fantastic the whole time, had good insights and some interesting chats with the plant, there was much chuckling and bliss, it would show something that needed work, and then we would go on fun little jaunts and have fun. I can see this being a fruitful friendship. I will work up slowly to avoid uncomfortable experiences.

I haven't given up on caapi, but am happy that things turned out like this for the time being.

Don't turn your nose up at rue! It is a great plant.
