Working and giving 100%

Just got a full time job, I kill myself to get the job done. I treat all work like its for myself. If im doing something and requires effort, I give it all. This is not a bragging post. But more of a inspirational post.

If you put in all you got and know you did to the very most, good things will come your way, the things you want in life are sure to happen. I have had this realization with dmt. It helped me become who I am, a hard worker, father figure and most of all happy with myself.

Im a newly wed, and want to support my wife and family to be. Also want to be a good role model for my future children. It all starts with us as individuals. A hard road for sure but I would not change a thing about it. For people to look up to and follow one must be willing to tackle even the most daunting task because our work reflect who we are as individuals to the reflection in the mirror.

I love all and want the best for each and every one of you. This is what I have found even though I have known it for years, It hit me like a ton of bricks while the times I have been tripping, on more than one occasion. "Just do it and don't think about the details." If we think too much on how much effort is going into the project it becomes haunting, hard to reach, and labor intensive. Don't think about it "just do it". Get it done. Its a shame Im not a full member yet as I feel I have reached a point where I wont contaminate posts with jibber jabber. I have a lot to contribute to the home of Nexians. I also have had my first successful extraction from ACRB with "Pure" dmt not goo. Those little crystals forming in my jar is soo rewarding. It felt as it was a reflection on how things are going for me as well "I did It right!" I will continue to do right and good things, for "I Am Who I Am, and that's all that I Am."

I have found that working hard tends to make me happier.. not just because I am giving, but because I know I am doing right.

Similarly, if I slack off, I feel bad and it lowers my self esteem. Not a good thing.

I'm kind of a perfectionist.. I hope that you are able to work hard without resenting it. I have been on that path (still am in some ways) and IME it doesn't ever help in the long run. But if you can work hard, without feeling like others are taking advantage, and realizing the full benefits - power to you!

This is something I think about from time to time. Working 2nd shift tends to make it rather easy to slack off. And I know the times I've felt the best have also been the times I actually put my all into my work. I'm currently working on this, especially since not putting my all into it basically mean's I leave it for the next guy.

As far as feeling like other's are taking advantage though, that is usually what kind of tempers my actions because part of me does feel that way. Of course it kind of depends on the individual one is dealing with too though.

im gonna have to go the opposite way, i never ever give 100% at my job, in fact i put in as close to 0% as i possibly can and i feel fine about it.

i work a job that pays very poorly (less than living wage), they give the minimum legal amount of holidays and they infrequently give any kind of thanks to the workers, while the bosses drive around in Porsches and frequently take 10 week holidays.

My slacking doesnt mean others have to pick up the slack as i am the only one who does my type of work. I sit and watch others putting in lots of effort for very little reward, all they get in return is exhaustion, stress and a lack of energy to do anything at the end of the day/weekend, these people are basically living to work while getting very little in the way of returns.

I do put in 100% in my other activities, I climb alot and i wouldnt be able to train properly if i tried hard at work as i would be tired, i put my enjoyment way way above my work in my priority list.
I think giving 100% at your job is admirable if it something that you really enjoy or something that rewards you, but i think if you have a McJob then being proud of your effort at a job which rewards you in no way, financially or creatively, and you dont even get a thank you, well i think thats a bit weird.

I think the blanket idea that you should take pride in your work is very strange and it seems odd to me that so many people buy into it.

Being proud of your job is good as long as there is something to be proud of.

Darklord, you've been a member for about a week or so! I gave you a thumbs up about a month ago, and been keeping tabs on you as I thought "surely this guy should be a full member by now?" But congrats :thumb_up:

As for working 100%, I can't really support that.

Over my years, I've been a pizza base slapper, a mental health worker, a lifeguard, looked after autistic kids, run a rock venue, worked as a roadie on internationally touring bands, been a man with a van, driven cars around an airfield for a living, dressed up as a rhino for Save the Rhino, held various journalism jobs, worked in press relations for one of the most recognisable universities in the UK, worked in a warehouse, worked in a factory, been a manager of a video rental store, worked at Virgin records, and a bunch more.

What have I learned in all that time? Never give 100%. 100% breaks you. 100% depresses you. 100% consumes your life, and eclipses all the bits worth living for.

I now have a journo job covering university research. I work from home, yet get to travel the world. Despite being in a failing profession, I get paid more than most of my peers (both inside and outside journalism). I clock my own hours. And, to top it off, I do my favourite thing (writing) every day, and get paid for it. Hell, after years of struggling, I now have to find other hobbies to replace the gaping hole writing left in my spare time.

The secret is to give it roughly 80%, and to do something you enjoy. I love my job, respect the hell out of my co-workers, and do my best to ensure I can continue to ride this wave of good luck as long as lady fortune smiles on me. That said, I save 100% for when it's actually needed. Crunch time. Deadline day. Pick up the ball and run time. That way, I have 20% extra for when I need it. Conversely, some days I give 60%. I'm on holiday for a few days from today. I've worked hard on our latest mag. It goes out today. All I need to do is flick a few switches, sling a few emails, and send some tweets. Then I'm going to kick back, pop a couple of valiums, and drift into what should be an excellent weekend with friends, family, and psychedelics.

Long and the short, don't buy the corporate BS. You don't need to give 100% to succeed. Working hard does not mean you reap the rewards. Networking and picking your moments to shine does.

I work for myself so i put 90% effort into working 50% of the time. But when i do work, i put 100% into the job. 90% + 50% = 140% . For the sake of argument i will divide that 140% by 86.9 to give 1.61 ( to 2 dp). Coincidentally this number is very similar to the golden ratio. which makes me happy when i actually do get off of my arse to make the 100% effort.

(i agree with Shanghigher about Darklords full member status and i feel the same way about Adjhart)

I make low income bracket wages for working my ass off landscaping. Giving 100% means someone wanting to take more and more from me and demanding I work overtime without pay. So...no I dont go there to give 100%. I go there to make it through the day without being injured so I can still work the next day.

It is not ideal, but it is my reality for today. I personally dont buy into the guilt trips of modern culture associated with self worth and your job. I go work 50+ hours many weeks and I come home sore and make someone else a lot more money then I am making. I have no incentive to give more.

Thinking to myself, "Wow, I did a great job because I gave 100%" ... sounds like a reason to be smug, only to benefit someone else. I honestly don't feel the pay is worth it, there's not much incentive to give 100%. Life isn't necessarily a dog and pony show.

to my work , family and friends

what i've gotten in return is nothing , no success , no respect , no admiration or anythin worthwhile

i have given so much to my work i did not even have time for love and relationships , i've been alone for years now

i have given so much to my work that i am starting to have various diseases because of excessive stress and worry , i am becoming old prematurely due to stress

i have become a loser because of this , (this is how i truly feel)

truth be told what i got for giving 100% to everything is being alone , having health conditions , stress and the urge to kill myself and be over with it

there was a time when i cared about nothing , i was better of then havin a good time ,
anyways i quit everything and everyone
and am on the path to glory ,whatever that means
no more carin about anything is the path forward for me
walking naked into eternity is now my reality

It's good to feel good in life, and take pride in your life..yet it's also easy to feel good in life, and take pride in your life, until you fall. This is why people have said throughout history that life is a journey, the destinations are only rest areas catering towards reflection.

If you can find a way to work at something you truly love and believe in, then it no longer becomes an issue of simply giving, because it is not an issue of simply taking. When you are aligned with what is really in your heart and living it, you get back every ounce you put in simultaniously. There is no net loss.

Unfortunately, that is a rare occurance in our times.

Man, it doesn't matter what you do. You gotta take pride in your work. Otherwise you're just wasting time. You want to go home thinking "hey, I did a good job doing (insert shitty job here)" rather than thinking "ugh, today sucked. I can't believe I have to do it again tomorrow." It's all about outlook!

Opinions are just opinions, I feel good, I could care less about what should and shouldn't be. As I started putting effort into my life it got better, and the more I put in, the better it got. This works for me It doesn't mean I don't respect a different view on the matter, it just means it simply worked for me, and defiantly improved my situation. It isn't a dead end job btw.
Anyways whatever the case, its just who I am its what I do.

I know my actions are much louder than words so why do I need to say anymore? Talk is cheap its what we do that defines us as who we are so what? I could get fired tomorrow! I'll walk away knowing I did my best. As for being taken advantaged of, be aggressive when you need to be, my field demands that because they always want something for nothing, I don't get pushed around because I don't let it. Didn't know id upset people.. I didn't mean it to sound so preachy

Work, as currently structured within the dominant paradigm, is inherently exlpoitative and coercive. People were just pointing that out.
