Working one stone on many birds

Hello fellow nexians. I have run into a few problems trying to get my spice purified. After losing 3 grams of hard work over about a month of trials and errors I have became very frustrated and am seeking clarity. Will start off with this. Made the mistake of diluting my still impure spice in vg pg juice to vape in a ceramic cartridge. Which works amazing.
Came to the conclusion of impurity after a couple hits because it is causing ill feelings. Like itchy eyes and body aches in lower back. I'm thinking might have messed up in the sodium carbonate wash. Used way too much SC water mix. The non polar solution kept leaving a layer of yellow oil looking liquid between the water layer and solution layer. Found out that's dmt so in order to recover it I heated up the whole shot glass with fresh solution and the same SC water. I read one is not supposed to heat the wash. My questions are, did I mess up and end up with sodium carbonate in my final product? Was A second wash with just distilled water necessary? How do I get the solution and carbon wash to stop forming a middle layer. Read that cold wash is best, but wouldnt that encourage percipitation of spice? Can one take the spice out of the vg pg mix? If not. Is there a way to clean it while it is still mixed? Would really be sad to have to toss it. Any help with this would be so much appreciated. MUCH LOVE.

Cold SC wash is ideal. You dont want to leech out your spice with the heat. Also, overextending the SC wash leads to diminished yields, I've heard.

I wouldnt know anything about your juice mix though. good luck.

Hey,

What solution did you dissolve your spice in before washing it with sodium carbonate?

You are going to struggle to remove dmt from vg pg as both of them are miscible with water. There is something you could try, but it might get messy and wasteful.

What makes you so sure that there was an impurity in the spice at the end of your procedure?
Linking body aches and itchy eyes to the purity of your spice is a little dubious. If you did a sodium carbonate wash, then precipitated the dmt from a non polar solvent like hexane, or heptane or naphtha, and ended up with a nice crystalline white solid, then there is a good chance your material has a high purity.

If, for some reason, you were very keen to try to remove your dmt out of your vg pg, I would do the following;

Dilute your vg pg with at least 10 times the volume of water, it should go cloudy or an oil may become visible. Then extract with warm heptane or naphtha several times. Combine and freeze to precipitate.

This could go wrong if very small amounts of pg vg are soluble in your naphtha, and precipitate as an oil upon placing the non polar in the freezer. You'll end up with globules of oil amongst your crystals.

Obviously I haven't done this procedure. It's theory.

Hope this helps.

Thankyou Mesh.

Leratiomyces thanks for the input as well.

So, used naptha to disolve it. Would heptane be the better option for washing?

Ohh I see. Yea really wouldn't want to end up with oil in the precipitation. Actually tried adding hot heptane to a little amount of the vgpg mix. Evqporated and ended up with waxy white like powder. Tried vaping it. Very bad idea. Really hurt the lungs.

Well. I'm concerned because when vaped I immediately get these weird aches that have not shown up before. Specifically in my lower back on the right side. See that's where I'm questioning the effectiveness of the wash. Followed the steps and participated. Ended up with really tiny tanish yellowish hard crystals.

Another possibility I'm thinking is maybe didn't let it dry long enough. If that would be the case. Could heating the pg vg spice mix in a hot bath in a open beaker evaporate any trace solvent or is the solvent already binded to the mix?

Sounds like you're worried about sodium carbonate or naphtha as your impurities.

If your naphtha was nice and clear after you separated it from the aqueous phase, then there is little chance you have sodium carbonate in your product.

With regard to naphtha as an impurity, yes it is a great idea to allow your solid dmt to air dry to a constant weight, before storing it in a closed container.

As for naphtha in vg pg, it's solubility in pg vg doesn't look great, but that would depend on the constituents of the naphtha. Same goes for heating your pg vg to drive off naphtha. Personally I wouldn't do that for fear of speeding up unwanted degradation of dmt, namely oxidation.

Just as a reminder, harshness on vaporising can be explained by technique.
Also, all psychedelics are notorious for producing bodily sensations that may be strange, worrying, intense or pleasant, without any rhyme or reason. Somatic sensations are part and parcel of psychedelics.
Don't automatically think impurities when this happens.
