xylene help

Greetings !! As I have been researching a lot on xylene I have seen a lot of people saying it has a really strong odor, if so how so how strong would the smell be compared to shellite? I am a pretty anxious guy especially on my health and the most important question is how bad would it be affecting me just by smelling it, I would be doing the whole evap outside, would it be pretty toxic even if it's outside? Cheers!

In my opinion Xylene is not bad, it has a sweet odor but it's a bit more "dense" it needs a little more time for the smell to clear up than naphtha.

IMO I think it smells like permanent markers when evapped.

Xylene should not be inhaled if possible, it's more dangerous than naphtha. Wear gloves or it can irritate your skin if it comes into contact.

Why are you evaporating xylene? A better route would be to add excess fumaric-acid-saturated acetone, which will precipitate DMT fumarate that is then easily collected by decanting the xylene/acetone.

I am evaporating xylene because it holds more than shellite, I am thinking more on the board of just evaporating it then
Recystallising and freeze precip, I try avoid purchasing off the internet especially chems, anyone else have any suggestions?

Has anyone used just used other stuff like cooking oils and evaporating it as it is? Or do you have to salt the oil

I used vegetable oil. You can't evaporate it. You'll have to salt it out with an acid solution. But that's fairly easy to do

You can pretty much use any acid. I used vinegar. I ended up with just under a gram after my extraction but I used dead bark which is a no-no.
Note: White vinegar does leave some residue in your final product if you choose to evaporate it. If you basify the vinegar and pull with another solvent and evaporate or freeze precip that solvent you will avoid contamination.

Acids you can use:
Fumaric Acid
Acetic acid (vinegar)
Sulfuric Acid
Tartaric acid
Hydrochloric acid

ohh ok i see i see, my last two question would be could i use citric acid? and with the vinegar residue containating would it affect my health any more than dmt itself? cheers for this

Yes you can use citric acid.

I don't think you have to worry about Vinegar and/or dmt freebase being harmful for your health. If you're using food-grade material (citric acid, vege oil and sodium carbonate) you're contaminants wont make any noticable different but add weight to your final product.

See the post HERE and substitute xylene for the naphtha (same process)
BTW no need to be anxious about solvents...you're not going to be ingesting them and they shouldn't end up in your product if the extraction is performed correctly. :thumb_up:

Cheers heaps Cyb! really helped, and also i always use shellite as my NP, even if it leaves an oily residue would it get into my final product through freeze precipitation? as i am quite worried maybe i've been smoking some carcinogens but i never get any burning down my throat.

Don't use shellite...find some decent naphtha...
You should be able to get 'Panel Wipe' ... every country re-sprays cars (perhaps)

Zippo works for me...although Ronsonol is preferred if you can get it.

I don`t believe Ronsonol is available here, but stick with Zippo, it works great.
I personally do a Toluene pull to extract all the goodies, evap that under a fan.
It forms awesome crystaline circles (about a hundred of them).
Then scrape it up, and rextal in hot zippo.
I then let the zippo sit for a bit, till it gets cloudy, and you can see it start to precip at room temp, then move the liquid to glass container, seal and throw in the freezer.
This helps to drop any fats/oils that remain prior to throwing the liquid into the freezer, resulting in a more pure product.
