What kind of harmalas yield have been obtained from Syrian rue; rue weight to harmalas yield? I know there are variables in regard to the growth of the plant, however I am curious, for comparison.

Will harmalas dissolve in H2O that isn't acidic?

How can you gauge how much sodium carbonate or lye maybe in the harmalas if you over saturate the water? Sodium carbonate water saturation is 216 grams/liter of water at 20 degrees Celsius, NaCl is about 36g/100ml @ 20 degrees C, what is the saturation of Harmalas salt? Any one have an equation for figuring the sodium carbonate or lye amount? Or am I just making this more complicated than needed and I can simply add water to dissolve the excess sodium carbonate or lye?

SWIM obtained a pound of rue seeds.

From what I understand the average yield for rue seeds is ~3% so for every 100g you should get at least 3g of harmalas. This amount can vary a lot depending on how pure you want the end result to be.

I'd like some more information about washing the excess lye off. I'm not sure if I trust the "add more water" bit. Something tells me there is a better way.
