Looks great!!! You should have a few more pulls left. I got 7 pulls out of mine and there is an 8th pull waiting, just taking a break.
Congrats on the nice looking spice! As for the smell, it's an odd one. After I made my first two pulls, the. I could smell it everywhere. I would be making my sandwich and smell DMT in the lettuce! Even people smelled like DMT, I felt that I could sense the DMT in everything. Then after my first couple of small doses of spice, the smelling it everywhere went away.
Some describe the smell as a flower, I think it's like woodsy. It is some alkalines and fats from the plant that naphtha pulls and people tend to like the taste of. If it bothers you or you want to purify it, you can re-x it. Or you can was with sodium carbonate, or do your pulls with heptane next time(it gives a more pure white spice).

Your advice paid off! Have done a second pull, leaving the third for tomorrow evening. The smell doesn't bother me, it's just that I had previously sampled some spice from a questionable source which smelled really strong and horrible and in comparison the smell is quite light and mild really.

I didn't think it was worth re-xing it to be fair. It seemed pretty clean, it's now currently being soaked up by an equal amount (0.25g in total) of a mixture of caapi, passion flower, blue lotus, pau d'arco and a smidge of dream herb.

Unfortunately no time to actually sample it as of yet but no rush!

I like the idea of using heptane if it produces a whiter product as the nect pull is definitely a lot more yellow.

Re-ex some of my first attempt earlier, it's still freezing at the moment but I reckon I've lost a considerable amount.

Not sure where to obtain heptane from in UK though I shall try.

What is your method for separating the DMT from the gunk when you recrystallise it?

I use this method but with naptha and a glass pripette:

I end u with some cleaner yet still yellow crystals at the bottom of the shot glas but all around the sides (and the majority of what's left, I'd say) comes out pure white!

It definitely gets rid of loads of crap.

Just finished scraping out my re-x from my first batch which I don't think was a clean pull at all, was just like yellow powder more than crystals.

When all mixed together it's still yellow but nowhere near as much and it is definitely crystaline, all shiny and nice looking when it wasn't before.

Also the waste that was removed really does look gunky so think it's done a decent job.

Lost exactly half the original yield which I think goes to show how impure it was originally.

Haven't sampled any of it yet (setting and mindset is important and not right just yet) but I feel pretty confident that this will be pretty clean despite it's colour now.

Time will tell though.

What if you cover it? will the dmt crystallise and separate with bestine left on top like with the naphtha pulls?

Depends on if you are doing an extraction or re-x.

for extraction:
if you are doing an extraction you always want to cover the solvent pull while in the freezer if you wish to save the solvent for other pulls (recycle).

-If you want to not save the solvent you have two options: you can either let it evaporate in the freezer which takes a long time and doesnt make sense because the reason why the freezer is used is to precip the DMT out of the solvent to make it harded and remove (decant) the solvent to leave just DMT. Stinks up your freezer.
-The other option is to let it dry out in the open. Stinks up whatever room it is in.

If you wish to save the solvent then cover the solvent pulls the freezer for 12-24 hours, then drain off solvent slowly. the DMT is left in the precip container and place uncovered upside down or upright until dry. usually 2 hours. there will be a bit of a stink but not much. bring out of freezer, place top back on and place in fridge for maybe 20 mins then to room temp before opening lid. (or you will get condensation.

If you are re-Xing with heptane or naphtha:
you heat up two shot glasses in a hot bath. one has dmt and the other has heptane. once heated, you want to add just a bit of solvent at a time to the DMT until the spice has melted (with an eye dropper is great). stir it and let it cool in the bath. after that take the shot glass out of the water and let dry. should be nice white chrystals! (any dark hardened guck at the bottom is disgarded)

Darn! read your post wrong I think!

Ok. so you have to choose what you are going to use as a solvent for the pulls. naphtha or heptane (bestine). you cant add both to the mix.
-if you use naphtha for the pulls, then you have the option of re-X with heptane as a cleaner product of white chrystals.
-if you use heptane for the pulls, then you already have a clean product and shouldnt need to clean / re-X.

Note: you dont have to re-X your product. only if you feel the need to have beautiful chrystals or to clean it from gunk getting in from the mix from careless extraction pulls. note again: product loss from re-X is known to happen (small amounts).

Yes. there is no reason not to have it uncovered, and every reason to have it covered... unless there is something specific to bestine that I don't know about.

EDIT: I just read EK's post. Yeah if you want to freeze it then cover it and if you want to evaporate it then leave it uncovered but not in a freezer. Since you are asking about the freezer, you want to not only cover it but seal it completely or it will stink out your freezer and potentially mess up any food that's in there.

Not to diverge, but a bit further up the thread the question of temperature needed to saturate naphtha with dmt on a pull.

I have done several pulls, and temperature is definitely important. If you’re in the 70’s and you get no dmt in your naphtha.
100-110f you get plenty of dmt and start to get other fats and what not.
Too yellow is not good.
Have looked for a post on optimal temperature for dissolving spice into naphtha and have found nothing really.
Anyone? To me, this seems very important.

What do most people use?

No idea on heptane in the UK. We have Micheals art stupply store here in Canada which has heptane. But there are others on here who know where to get it in the UK. I think doing kermit lives there??? (not sure, sorry if I am wrong).

As for temp of naphtha... Anyone who know science here?????????????

Oh and some like the yellow because of the properties it holds and the effects it gives. Kinda like maybe jimjam has other effects because of the "other properties"

I'm UK and have never found anywhere to get heptane from, and I have tried. Not to say it can't be got, I'm sure it can from somewhere, but I've had no luck.

Hexane will work perfectly fine as well.
