Advice wtd: Recommend a first psychedelic...

Migrated topic.

Hi everyone,

If you've read some of my previous posts, you may recall that I haven't tried any of the classic psychedelics. So I'd like to tap into your collective wealth of experience and ask what psychedelic you would recommend to try for the first time.

I'm aware that it probably depends a lot on to what purposes I want to try psychedelics, and the first and foremost is probably curiosity. Secondly, I believe the mind has abilities that are rarely used in normal waking consciousness and that psychedelics is one of the most direct ways to trigger them. Thirdly, I am very interested in the theory and beliefs of many users and non-users that other realities/dimensions exist outside the one which we experience normally everyday, and it would appear that psychedelics are a tool to access them.

I am not looking for something to take at parties, but more to take in the house in a nice relaxing environment or else out in the wilderness when camping and away from civilisation for a few days with a close friend.

I believe that I am in good mental health, free from family history of psychiatric problems and am in a good mood the vast majority of the time.

If I could have made a poll I think it would be quite useful, but I don't think I have the permission to do that yet. Perhaps this a pointless topic, as it might be like asking you advice for a new pair of jeans, but I'm hoping I can draw from your experiences and thoughts on how you may have approached things differently had you the chance.

Looking forward to hearing your opinions and apologies if I have left anything out :)

Some day I hope that I have enough experience to be able to contribute back to this very helpful and knowlegable community.

I would recommend Mushrooms if you want a 'classical psychedelic,' if you want something more intense than brew Ayahuasca.

well, to which psychedelic do feel attracted?
and more practically, to what psychedelics do you have acces?

hey entheojen, if it were me, i would start out with mescaline, mushrooms, or acid (LSD/HBWR), in the corresponding order (order isn't necessary at all though- i just say that cuz mescaline is very gentle). Really though, any one of these three in low doses will be just fine. once u get a feel for it, you can experiment around with moderate-heavy doses.
i have found that with a spiritual goal, any psychedelic is extremely humbling. hope this helps buddy:d

What I'm attracted to from reading: DMT, LSD, Mescaline, Mushrooms
What I'm not so keen on/little knowledge of from what I've read: 5-Meo-DMT, Bufo, Ibogaine, Salvia to name a few.

and more practically, to what psychedelics do you have acces?
I probably have access to most ones you can procure the ingredients legally and manufacture at home. I wouldn't have a clue where to get LSD though, and would be wary of any illegal sources.

Thanks for replying.

Hey
For a first trip i would also recommend either mescaline or mushrooms! they are both very very gentle and easy to work with. And also both very easy to come across :D

But above all i guess you should search in your soul and see where she pulls you to go! I only try a new teacher when "she calls" me.

I would suggest a strong brew of Ayahuasca, no admixture. 50-60 grams of just vine brewed 3x3.

Then mescaline, in staggered doses of 50-75mgs at 30 minute intervals over a few hours.

Then homegrown mushrooms, 1.5-2g give a decent feel.

Best advice. Stick with the mushrooms unless you have at least one experienced ayahuasca used to calm you down. And remember, ayahuasca will make you sick. Mushrooms probably wont. I reccomend mushrooms for first time users. LSD was my first but thats because it is all I could get at that young age.

I have to agree with many others here, a low dose of mushrooms is about as kind of a first experience as you can get. In University I gave many friends who had never had any drug experiences in there lives mushroom tea. All had positive experiences and were very thankful.

hello, i'm a new member of DM-Nexus. i am EXTREMELY interested in DMT. i am VERY open-minded and i would like to experience DMT myself first-hand. how do you recommend

I would say your two choices are acid and shrooms. Personally, having done both, and having done shrooms first, I would say acid would be the way to go for a first multi-hour trip. It's not as jarring as a dislocation from reality, and I just like the vibe a lot more. One of my friends had this saying that for myself, I find quite accurate: "Shrooms are the questions and acid is the answers." On shrooms I usually feel confused, and any "revelations" I have tend to be bogus (they seem like revelations at the time, but it was really misinterpreted mis-steps in logic, while on acid I get the feeling that my mind is truly working in overdrive, processing three times as fast, and bending to make logical connections that would normally be difficult to wrap my mind around: a very intellectual drug. I also like how acid hits you in waves so even if things get bumpy, you can have some time, practically sober in-between waves whereas when I take shrooms, if things go badly, it's like I'm stuck at the bottom of a well and can't pull myself up and together.

A low to medium dose of mushrooms, without any doubt. You can dip your toe in the water to gently feel how the entheogenic journey is. Ayahuasca is, at least to me, more or less uninteresting in low doses. The medium duration of length for mushrooms also speaks in favor, otherwise mescaline and LSD would be excellent suggestions. A 12 + hour trip may be a bit too much for the first try.

I would suggest mushrooms for the reason cited by Evening Glory, the duration of the trip.Another possible option, should you want to cautiously dip your toes in the psychedelic 'pool' is to eat a couple of grams of decent hashish- this can give the more wary traveller a taste of what can happen to ones mind:wink:

I think mescaline is very kind in the doses I have tried. Though it can be hard to measure potency if one is making a San Pedro tea, or eating peyote buttons, as the alkaloids in both can range so much. I tried a half eighth of mushrooms for my first psychedelic experience, setting aside cannabis. I suggest trying a low dose of mushrooms, as you don't have access to lsd. I say acquire a half eighth of mushrooms, and eat approximately .5-1 gram or brew it into a tea and sip however much you feel comfortable with.
I suggest trying LSD at some point if you can ever find a reliable source, Lucy tends to be more kind in integrating your intentions for the trip, mushrooms are kind of rude sometimes.
I almost wish I had tried mescaline as my first psychedelic like my girlfriend. She tried a few pinches of ground peyote for her first psychedelic experience, I wish I could tell you the exact milligrams.

let us know how your first experience goes! :)

I don't know math, but I have this intuition that "making logical connections that would normally be difficult to wrap my mind around" is somehow analogous to "finding solutions to higher dimensional topological problems", whatever that may mean. :)

To the OP: if I were in your situation and had the space/time to do it, I would grow mushrooms. Not buy them, grow them. This way you can build up a relationship with them which provides a great framework for the psychedelic experience. Ayahuasca also sounds good (the ritual context is implied).
