BLAB woes.....

Good evening Nexians!

A FOAF is attempting a BLAB extraction; he is a bit dozey and he has screwed up- he thinks.

He has 300g powdered MHRB, popped it into a HDPE container and then added approximately 670mls of 5% acetic acid.He mixed it thoroughly and then he made his error.He then proceeded to put 1.17L of distilled water into the mix.

If he followed the instructions closely the adding of the water step should have followed basification which is not to happen until 3 days down the line.

Has he blown it, or is there a way out of his predicament?

Any advice would be received with immense gratitude......
 
You're fine, all this means is you have a slightly more dilute acid solution (moreso than BLAB calls for, but you're still more acidic than other teks such as Marsofolds would have you at this point,so I wouldn't worry about it). I would just proceed as normal, give it several days of soaking in that acid and then continue along the BLAB steps (although you won't need to add as much water when basifying).
 
yeah you have nothing to fear.. Is your bark powdered, btw? I ask because personally I am skeptical that for powdered bark it makes any difference at all to make the acid soak in the beginning, I suspect STB would work just as well, but the acid part at least doesnt hurt in any way (and to know if it makes or not a difference, only a side-by-side test would say for sure).

Oh and, which salting from the BLAB are you going to do, vinegar, FASI or FASW?
 
Yes, Endlessness, the MHRB is pre-powdered and the plan ,barring (further!) unforeseen circumstances is to salt it using the FASI approach.Thanks to both you and Snozzleberry for your quick and most reassuring replies.

If the yield is good and inshaAllah it will be, I plan to give the changa approach a go.The caapi leaves are just waiting....The rave reviews by changas greatest exponent Gammagore have me intrigued!:d
