This is a follow-up on @Ruebacca comment posted in the Can harmalas cause insomnia? thread.

with the fresh seeds i just chew them raw as long as possible and keep them 2-10min. in my mouth. thats probably the reason 2g give me trouble walking straight and very intens bodyload.
@Ruebacca I have experimented with ingesting harmala powder in the past, including recently. I would typically weigh out a dose say, around 4 g and then use a teaspoon to ingest it in small portions, roughly 5–10% of the total dose at a time, over a period of about 5–10 minutes.

I noticed that my body strongly rejects the substance when taken this way. Even after successfully swallowing some of it, I would often experience a pronounced gag reflex and, at times, an actual vomiting reflex.

Based on your observations and experimentation with this route of administration, do you think someone could potentially obtain effects simply by holding chewed harmala seeds in their mouth for, say, 10 minutes and then spitting them out? Or, in your experience, is swallowing the material necessary to produce the effects you described?

hey nice, good idea, i will report back when i tried this. with chewing i also expirience a rapid onset of altered state within like 5-20 min. The full effect arrives within 45-100min.

buccal route could bring some interesting nuances that are different when no guts are involved.

For getting alog with the taste, maybe try sucking und later chewing just 1 single seed, and see how your body reacts. then work your way up with whole seeds.

I can imagine that powder is maybe more difficult to adapt to then seeds.

With nutmeg its similar, ingesting the powder is not really nice, but just chewing one whole nut i actually really enjoy. idk why.

This would probably be equivalent to sublingual route, thus faster onset and shorter duration. Swallowing them after you chewed them 10 minutes or so would be mixed sublingual/buccal and oral administration, with balance depending on how long you chew them and how much alkaloids are left in the seeds when you swallow them.
