Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and DMT, any user?

Hi everyone,

I've been dealing with long COVID, also known as chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), for almost 4.5 years, ever since the pandemic began. During this time, I've been mostly housebound, with several months spent bed-bound. Recently, I've become semi-functional thanks to starting a brain retraining program.

I’m convinced that the root of the issue lies in our stress response, which remains chronically activated, much like in PTSD. My most debilitating symptoms include brain fog, chronic pain, and fatigue. I’ve experienced periods of remission, and since focusing on regulating my nervous system, these periods are occurring more frequently—about every 1-3 weeks—whereas before, they only happened once or twice in an entire year.

I’m reaching out to see if anyone else with CFS has found relief or experienced significant improvement. I've seen a few stories of recovery on this site, but I’d love to hear if there are any recent updates or experiences.

Living with CFS has been one of the hardest challenges of my life. To put it in perspective, if I were to compare it to my 6 years old brain tumor surgery i had and everything that followed, that surgery felt like a walk on the beach in comparison to dealing with CFS.

Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!

I'm very sorry to hear you're struggling with this! I used to follow a YT channel called Physics Girl led by a woman called Dianna who made some exceptionally interesting videos on all things physics. She also got diagnosed with CFS and I've seen how much she has changed, and what a monumental challenge living with this condition can be.

While I can't provide any anecdotal information on this, I sincerely hope you find some kind of remedy that at least alleviates the symptoms, if not eradicating them entirely.

Stay strong, and wish you all the best! <3

Im so sorry to read this, it must be devastating to go through life this way. As far as I know there is no evidence of dmt being used as an treatment/cure for CFS, there are some anecdotal reports of random people on the internet who claim some effect. I would urge you to not take these claims to serious. You could of course try a low dose and see if there’s any benefit to it, but since DMT can be very stressful at times I would recommend against it since you mentioned that there may be a link between stress and CFS.

Take care

Thank you for your honest reply. I'll consider increasing the dosage over time and see what happens.

Thanks brother, i am happy where i am now compared to last year, i have been experiencing a good upward trend in my health since starting to learn how to respond emotionally to symptoms with "brain retraining". I am confident i will get out of this illness, i was only wondering if this wonderful medicine can be a helping hand. Resetting my chronic subconscious stress response.

If I'm not mistaken, CFS and long covid are separate conditions, with heavy fatigue being a potential feature of long covid.

I make this distinction because it may change how you approach it. There's evidence that in long covid, there is a viral reservoir of covid in the gut the inhibits serotonin production and disrupts that vagus system. For me, with long covid, taking 5htp, a precursor of serotonin, has seemed to be very very helpful.

I hope you find a remedy or several that can help you get better soon.

One love

Thank you brother! I might give that supplement a try, believe me it’s probably the only one I haven’t tested yet, not enough space in my supplement room haha.

Let me share something i really care because it took me a long research and time (4 years). There are actually a lot of theories and doctors that suggest nervous system dysregulation originating from the brain is the cause of CFS. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is often an umbrella term that covers a wide range of symptoms, and its onset can be triggered by various factors, from viral infections to trauma like car accidents.

After reading 2 books on mind-body syndrome, I experienced a remarkable shift — my symptoms nearly disappeared for an entire week, then they came back but i wasn't really understanding how that was possibile, since i was skeptical about that theory, considering how physical the symptoms are perceived.
Later on, i joined a brain retraining program, and by consistently practicing meditation, light yoga, gratitude visualization, semen retention, keto diet and improving my response to stressors. One morning i woke up and it was like a switch went on, my rational brain came back along with emotions, memory, empathy, and a general relaxed feeling in my whole body. I had almost two months without symptoms and felt incredible. It was amazing to have my life back during that time, which happened around March and April. I considered myself almost cured by that time and slowly stopped being too strict with my "spiritual" regimen.

Unfortunately, life threw some stressors on my way, which I didn’t handle as well, and the symptoms returned. Since then, I’ve had periods of small remissions, but nothing as consistent, however i am not doing all the things mentioned earlier.
However, I know several people who have fully recovered using brain retraining and nervous system techniques. It took them a long time and a lot of inner work, but they eventually healed completely.

Now, this is just my view, i am not stating that it's correct, i am only basing this on my personal experiences which might be coincidences even if unlikely to me.

I'm really sorry to hear that you're dealing with Long COVID too. I hope things are getting better for you. If you don't mind sharing, I’d love to hear how DMT has affected your Long COVID, especially if you took it during your illness.
