Either my previous experience was pure coincidence, or coleus needs to be smoked / quidded.
This time I took a larger quantity of leaves, emulsified the bejeebus out of them with 1g phosphatidylcholine (bioavailability enhancer for lipophilic compounds), and chugged that roughly an hour before bed. Dreams were pronounced, but nothing like the former test. This means that—for me—both fresh and dried leaves have failed to produce any significant effects with oral ROA, but smoked and quidded (especially quidded) led to more profound dreams. Perhaps the subtle effect I had when chewing wasn’t placebo, because I can confidently say that absolutely nothing was felt from this brew or 4g of dried powder (both were combined with phospholipids).
Research leads to some unique compounds (royleanones, spirocoleons: spiroscutelone A-C, coleon O—abietane diterpenes), but there’s very little published in terms of metabolism. I’ll likely return to quidding / smoking dried leaves, see if the impact on dreams is repeatable, and then start playing around with natural inhibitors for oral ROA (CYP34A is probably a good place to start).
