SWIM has been making and experiencing the spice on and off for a couple of years now and has been wondering about this in particular for quite some time.

SWIM tends to regularly use opiates, oxycodone in particular. Someone once told her that certain pharms such as xanax and opiates acted negatively on the spice journey, lessening its potential. So she was wondering if spice acts on dopamine or seratonin and to what extent. And if so, will being under the influence of another chemical that acts upon the brain in such a way diminish or restrict the power of spice? Or perhaps potentiate it?

As a liner note;

SWIM has so far made careful preparations so as to to be completely pure when experiencing spice. She's afraid that other chemicals will prevent the spice from working and therefore waste the precious stuff. Is this a reasonable fear to have?

SWIM is also curious about prolonged use of serotonin-reuptake inhibitors and whether subsequent damage might alter the effect of spice?

SSRI - selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors are a no no...... I knew a chic once who could iron lung dmt like weed... hit after hit for hours... and described it as a mild acid type experience... this was 4 MONTHS after discontinuing an ssri med - I think it was 20 mg a day of celexa? Not certain... after a couple years.. swim shared with her again.. the first hit opened her third eye immediately and she was overcome with the glamour of the gods. SSRI's will either prevent you from having ANY effect from dmt at all, or seriously diminish its potency. It is the reverse MAOI and the effects of which determine on the amount active in the brain. They stay active and present in the brain for months sometimes after discontinuation of use.

Large amounts of P-glyco protein inhibitors , (this includes a wide range of medicines... not that many but spread all over the board for so many reasons... most aren't prescribed to inhibit pgp but rather have this as an undesired side effect.)PGP regulates the transport of many substances across the blood brain barrier as well as out the other side. It is a system of enzymes which exist in many places throughout the body to serve this and other varying functions. ) Large amounts of PGP inhibitors could drastically alter the DMT experience.... it could serve in the same fashion as an MAOI... tho some of the results may be un-desireable. PGP substrates on the other hand could weaken the experience as well as decreasing its duration.

I do not reccomend playing around too much with the PGP system except to say that if you are opioid dependent then you may want to look into the subject for extending the effects of your opiate dosages. The pgp system regulates how fast someting is metabolized in the brain, the liver etc... it also alters the way things are metabolized. For instance... lets say that within the first 24 hour following a 400 mg dose of codiene, normally the ranges of metabolism would come out sorta like this . 85 + of the drug will exit the body through urine in the first 24 hours. 8 -10 percent of that will come out as nor-codiene, 24-30 percent will exit the body as morphine and a few other morphine skeleton metabolites, 50 some odd percent will exit the body as unchenged drug (yes recoverable for heavy users of many opiates with the means to do so) and blah blah blah...... Now wev'e tweaked our pgp system a bit using perhaps Piperine ( the main constituent of black pepper at an average of about 4%!)maybe we added some concentrated grapefruit actives (you ever read the information packets that come with your meds from the pharmacy? LOL) Somewhat unrelated but we may take an excess of something like zantac for HB.. maybe about a triple dose... perhaps we take few mg's of Nifedipine or Quinidine.... we wait about an hour and we do only a FRACTION of our normal opiate dose and we are warm and fuzzy for a very long time. :-)

Now lets say for instance you take Procardia for high blood pressure (Nifedipine) , and or quinidine , or chlonidine for HBP... and perhaps another medication (of which there are thouands) which act either as a PGP inhibitor and you go the hospital with your leg cut off they may not give you anything for pain... because your cyp450 enzyme or whatever isn't pumping to break down the opiates so they just float around in their unabated and only and just a few mg's of something as weak as hydrocodone would wipe you out.

Hell in medical detox they always make everyone take chlonidine or whatever to keep the withdrawal changes in BP regulated.......... they wont even give you an immodium because they know that ultra mild "dose" of the opiate Immodium - Loperamide in combination with the Chlonodine could "potentially" get you high.

Iv'e been a hardcore opiate addict for years and ive been getting higher for cheaper (maintaining) cheaper by altering my pgp system. You do have to be careful tho. Essentially hat you are doing with you tweak with that system is thin your blood bran barrier, allowing crap to go through that normally wouldn't.... that's dangerous if you ask me. It can however be done right. The reason I got off on that kick is to say that Harmaline / Harmine and related Beta-Carbolines would be detrimental (sp)- anyways bad freaking news if your PGP wasn't right. If you were taking medications which mess with the pgp proccess and you add on top of that an MAOI which lets even more in then you are asking for trouble.

So with plain ole DMT smoked as a freebase theres no problem with anything but maoi's and ssri's .... there will be no problems at all with dmt alone concerning your opiate use. I've Done it all and lived through it. So that parts ok.. If you are on any other medicines tho then I would check to see if they are indeed a PGP inhibitor or substrate. If they are it shouldn't cause much of a problem with dmt alone. Its the aya or pharma or use of maoi's you'd have to worry about.

Thats about it for me tonight i'm ready to pass out ... I know that probably didn't make any sense,.... lol im a bit baked. Godspeed!

Wow, interesting post Spiceman! The PGP system was new to me, I am very glad you made us all aware of this. :) I did, however, think piperine was a selective MAO-B inhibitor? Is this false information, and the real reason for interaction with other substances is it's effects on P-glycoprotein?

isn't eating grapefruit a rudimentary way to alter PGP? or is that something else?

also, any other input would be much appreciated.
