So...

I'm planning on eating Datura Seeds. I'm planning on eating ~50 seeds. I know that I couldn't possibly die from an OD with that amount of seeds, but I know that it could be dangerous to do it without a sitter. That's why I 'm planning to do it with a very knowledgeable person that initially disagreed with my experiment, but when he saw that I was very decided, he accepted. He said to me that he would take enough water and food and would take care of me by not allowing me to try to escape from the place (nature, not room) into some sort of street or whatever.

I know I will most likely have deliriums. I've also read the Erowid Datura FAQ.

I also know that these plants are related to Brujeria and the dark spirits, sometimes evil and dangerous forces. I have not the intention to become a brujo or some sort of shaman that works with dark spirits. My intention, as a psychologist, is too better understand the phenomena of delirium and possibly schizophrenia as well. I know there is a risk. I will take it. Another reason is my curiosity... I'm not afraid of having a "bad trip" (Maybe I'm even searching for one). But... my question is:

Are there any tips on setting that someone would like to share?

Can one feel very tempted to follow the dark path after using Datura stramonium / inoxia seeds, if say, one is not precisely a very spiritual / mystical person?

Do you guys feel, like I do, that psychiatrists and clinical psychologists should experience with these kind of plants in order to better understand what some of the patients are going through?

Thanks for your help.

Make sure that your sitter can over power you and kick your ass if it comes to it. That's all I can say about this really. I don't think you can much learn anything from this experience, as all reports point at recall being very vague.

The memory effects tend to make experiments like this a complete waste. Also, is your sitter aware of the propensity to physical rage and attacking of others that the delirium carries with it?

[1] You should stay away from any place that have possible death traps in the area nearby. Lakes, rivers, cliffs, large rocks or stones, steep hills, etc. Everything you may harm yourself or others with should be removed far, far away. This includes, but is not limited to, knives, belts and even mobile phones. You'd be surprised what can be used as a weapon intentionally or unintentionally.

I will also urge you to have TWO sitters, not only one. You may need to be taken by force, something that might not be easy for one person. Also take into account that the trip might last two whole days. It is smart to have some medication to knock you out if needed.

[2] Yes, absolutely. I doubt people with their mind in the right place will follow "the dark side" after the trip has ended, but during the trip you might absolutely do things that can be attributed to the dark side. This may not be intentionally.

[3] Yes, I feel you absolutely should! However, don't take for granted that what you experience necessarily correlates with what people in other forms of delirium experience. Some doctors thought in the 60's, and some still do, that LSD shows how psychological illness feels, but we all now that to be about as false as possible. To experience both LSD and Datura might give hints to understand, but don't take it as the truth.

The memory effects are worse for seeds high in scopolamine. Scopolamine produces far more memory problems than hyoscyamine. Hyoscyamine doesn’t cross the blood brain barrier as easily as scopolamine does. So in this respect Datura stramonium seeds would be better than Datura inoxia seeds. However, users on high doses of Datura stramonium seeds can be scarier to deal with for the sitter because they are far more active with their environment while Datura inoxia users tend to just sit there more.

soulfood: Yep, my sitter would kick my ass quite easily if necessary. Actually, I think that should be a rule for almost all substances.

ragabr: Yes he is aware that my delirium may cause that I become unintentionally aggressive, but he is stronger than me and we would do the experiment in a place without knives and dangerous objects. Actually, as Evening Glory suggests, I think the best idea would be, in fact, to have 2 sitters watching. That way they could talk to one another without being bored taking care of me, and in a dangerous situation, two heads think better than one.

Evening Glory: Thank you VERY much for your suggestions. They are all very clear and wise IMO. All three suggestions made me think about things I had not carefully considered before. The two sitters instead of just one was an excellent idea. Also, regarding the dark side issue, I think I will write myself a letter before doing the experiment, and in that letter I will tell myself that I need to relax and calm down. That it was all an experiment and that things are alright and stuff like that... and I will read it after the experience.

Regarding the mental health details, you are correct. I do think however that Datura is closer to psychosis than LSD, DMT or Shrooms. Way more close.

69ron: Thanks a lot for the information you brought up in this thread and the "Datura Dosage" thread. It is and will be extremely useful for the experience. I will tell my sitters to make notes and record me on camera when I start doing strange things. Of course that will not describe the inner experience, but will possibly make me remember some thing that I couldn't otherwise.

I'll post the experience in this thread.

Thanks a lot, you guys are amazing. This forum is a dream come true.
