Difference between 'active topics' & 'my topics'

Can someone please explain what active topics are? I obviously know what my topics are but beside it, under active topics there are topics I haven't been part of and I haven't even replied to anyone on them and they still show up and it is frustrating my OCD lol! Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.
