Different ratios of lye:water:MHRB:Naptha

Migrated topic.

I thought the correct ratio was 1:15:1:1 according to the original Norman's TEK

Yet I see people using 150mL of naptha per 100grams of MHRB

or

600mL of water per 100 grams of MHRB

Is there a point to all this? What are the advantages disadvantages?

-Thanks

Water and NAOH should scale
Above mixture should scale with MHRB
Naptha amount doesn't matter- too little is hard to pull up, too much can be annoying.

Thats what logic leads me to believe, at least.

Indeed.

That's half what most people would use.
The disadvantage is that if there isn't another water you won't get a good separation layer, if one at all.
I remember seeing someone's first extraction attempt and they mistakingly put only 500ml in a 100g mhrb extraction and the non-polar layer never formed. Took him a while to realize he'd only put 500ml in and not 1 liter.
As with your base, it's better to add excess water than too little.
But all this information, and more, exists in the thread I linked and others.

SWIM does 1:10:1 bark:water:lye but does admit to not actually weighing anything. Naptha is enough to pull swim says something like a 1/4 inch. Maybe half a turkey baster full, sometimes 2 of them for easy pulls.
