Do you always feel nervous before vaping DMT?

If your doing low dose, keeping it mild then one a week is fine , but when going for the " main event " , on higher dose , then one or twice a month is enough.

To me DMT is like a Ferrari , it's great when pottering around in it , no worry's, , but it's only when you push it to what it's capable of , is when You see it in its true light .

I usually do 25mg on my emesh and I am gone, I would like to go higher but been stuck on this dose a while, I know more would be a greater and longer experience, well so I have read and been told.
I would love to visit more but very cautious of a hyperslap and also and more is MR Fear, I hope to move on from this, even twice a month would be brilliant. More meditation daily and on the day planned to visit just lay out everything, load up and sit with it.

I like your DMT is like a Ferrari expression very very true!

When there is nothing to hold on to, your mind stops thinking straight, and short-term memory is fried, you come down to absolute basics - willpower and faith in life.

Try asking yourself, "Why am I afraid to smoke?" Usually, your fear is about losing control. We are afraid of the unknown and what it implies. Consciously using the medicine is an act of absolute surrender and trust in life. Yes, you can brainwash yourself to a degree a few times, but then you know what smoking is deep in your bones. Any gaslighting would fall off like leaves in autumn. I feel one needs to acknowledge the courage it takes and see that the act itself, even if done through the ego, comes from a much deeper place. Basically, the universe itself puts a vape or a cup into your hands. I like this passage from Dune about fear:

Litany Against Fear

"I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

The phrase derives from William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar:

"Cowards die many times before their deaths;
The valiant never taste of death but once.
Of all the wonders that I yet have heard,
It seems to me most strange that men should fear,
Seeing that death, a necessary end,
Will come when it will come."

Screenshots taken! Thank you as this is helpful, it will go in my blast off folder on my phone hahaha.

I fully agree. That's why sitting on the floor is such a good practice (or lying down in a corpse pose). You're not going anywhere. It forces you to learn how to be with yourself and your thoughts. Just sit, meditate, pray, and smoke. Invite everything in and be open. Sit and see - that's the whole practice, and it can easily be brought back into everyday life.

I plan on doing some changa soon as getting that feeling and I think i will do this.

Bigger doses yes

Low doses not much, usually just a bit before the first hit, then it mostly dissolves for further small hits, unless I'm doing other techniques to amplify it. I think I've smoalked low doses so much on LSD that on its own low dose DMT just feels very relaxing in comparison.

DMT and LSD is so fascinating and fun, such a great combo.

@northape, "why am I afraid to smoke?" is actually a good question. And yes, loss of control plays a role here. Aside from that, I feel like I'm rolling a dice and playing with my sanity every time I pick up that vape. I guess I'm fearing the unknown -- I just don't know what I will see and I fear that it may scar me somehow.

@Voidmatrix as for becoming intimate with fear, I agree that it is actually a well-established practice in cognitive behavioural therapy. There was a time in my life when I battled with severe anxiety and suffered from regular panic attacks, but I worked through it precisely through acceptance of fear

I don't always feel nervous before vaping DMT. Sometimes I meditate or think on the experience beforehand for hours and have everything perfectly set up. However, what's interesting is when I don't have DMT, I might tell myself "Oh man, I'm so excited to extract and vape again, I love DMT, it's my favorite, blah blah blah, I'm going to really live it up in hyperspace when I finally have some again!" And then what happens is I vape once or maybe a few times, and then I don't hear the call to come back for some months. So for me, it's possible to be excited about DMT and experiencing it without being ready for it. I think my best trips are when both conditions are satisfied, yet sometimes I do recognize that the time is near and I still have to get over the hump of trepidation. Invariably, when that's the case and I finally find myself inside the space again, it's always the same reaction: "OMG, this feels like home, I sense love around me, this is really weird like it always seems to be, and I'm still enjoying myself. Why was I nervous? This is such a gift."

The only times i don't have apprehension and a raised heart rate is when i Vape DMT during Yoga, that always feels like a merging or combining of two things to make a greater whole when done with small hits, breathing and control, it can sometimes be like one cancelling the other out with the energy put into Yoga being the control over how the DMT works.

Every single other time I sit down for a session my heart rate will be a bit too high and it takes my first few small hits and a bit of random phone scrolling to calm my system before heading deeper.

There's something I want to name, as I arise into the day, with elements of this conversation roiling in my system.

Avoid shame if you're afraid and if that fear inhibits the depths you want. It's too late for me and I have to continually and consistently push back on the automatic mechanisms of mind, brought about by conditioning, that imbue me with this shame and embarrassment. Now, this issue is present without medicine, but that's why I like this medicine because it will show you what you need to work on, especially at the lower levels. I started frequenting lower levels because of my fear, anxiety, and judgment. I am glad that I have, but I have wanted to deepen and am stuck. I actually cried over this after vaping yesterday.

I have a lot to learn here, especially with this, but give yourself grace, and do you.

One love

@Voidmatrix thank you for sharing, this sounds very deep and raw. Many of us have negative emotions, including shame, that hold us back. I find that psychedelics can amplify and transmute these emotions in unpredictable ways, however, working through these emotions takes a lot of work. Some of it is about acceptance. Some of it is about changing your lifestyle. The first time I tried DMT, I asked my friend to trip sit me, and before I went in, he told me that the reason we do this is to find love for ourselves and for the universe. This realisation struck me hard during me trip and it stayed with me. But actually finding this love is something that we must do day to day, even when it's grey outside. We all have our life stories and I hope that the universe has been compassionate to you, and I hope that you will be able to work through those negative feelings and find love.

I appreciate you. For various reasons, some my own doing in ways, it's just the cross I bear. All a work in progress. I just wasn't sure where some others stood with respect to my post, and so wanted to shine some light on what can be quite a dastardly well to fall down, speaking from personal experience.
I appreciate your kind words.

I oscillate between thinking that DMT could scar me psychologically and thinking that it can enrich my life
Hi! It is wonderful that you are curious!
Psichedelics cant scar you or do anything for you. It shows you who you are. That is what can scar you.
DMt cant enrich your life. You can enrich your own life with the transformation you do, after you saw and heard what you may buried long ago.

If you are anxious I suggest ask yourself a question right before the toke: So What is a bigger task? To see what aya want to show for me, or to integrate the experiences into my life?

Harmala is wonderful, and also have its own psichoactive effect even without DMT.

i do ayahuasca at least once a week sometimes 3 times if my schedule allows for it. each and everytime i do it i always feel anxious or scared and its normal, fear will never go away you just have to find out better ways to deal with it. for me i deal with it through clearing my mind via meditation or ill go for a small walk beforehand or ill just sit on my chair and just talk myself through the experience. you just have to remind yourself the fear is natural and that everything is okay.

Yes, every single session is an exercise at mindful anxiety control. And the least often I trip - the worst it gets... until that first inhale when the reality starts shimmering...

Haven't really given it any thoughts - I get extremely anxious before taking in any psychedelics. And yet, pre-dmt shakes seems to hit the hardest. Not sure - why. The total uncertainty, not knowing what to expect - most likely. DMT has that effect...

You've simply trained your nervous system to respond that way. I've mentioned this before to at least one of you. Work with milder plant medicines or lower doses so you can build trust. You need enough sessions with a medicine that can rewire that habit into a calm, accepting state. Both Mimosa and vaped DMT are too chaotic for building trust.

I've been there and can speak from experience. Not all medicines are like that. Your aim at breakthrough keep you in a fight-or-flight response, too. Eventually, you'll reach a point where you've had enough and decide to slow down. What you're describing isn't how medicine works for everyone, but rather your own response to and relationship with it.

- basic and vague. Inhale until my lungs are full, hold for at least 20 seconds and exhale.
- I do not plan on taking it regularly. I'll use it therapeutically as needed
- Had no pre flight anxiety. I planned a coaster dose from the very beginning. No trip for me

- Do not be too scared of low doses. Have a dosage guide with you. Also I tend to have a stubborn ego so that helps
- dmt may help calm me down. no guarantees. You may take it in public. You'll just be an adult smoking a vape lol.

Good thread

That's the thing: if you go for a breakthrough and get your mind blown for real, your ego will start to question this new habit. You're going against the current and all your habits, so your ego will react accordingly. If you don't listen to your body and just push through each time, you're training that stress response each time. That's why we always advise starting slow, but people with no experience sure think they know better. They push and get resistance.

Train yourself with low doses, learning how the body reacts, and go from there. You'll have much less pushback. This medicine is not about killing your ego, but transforming and opening it up. That old heroic dose stuff needs to go. Strong doses have their time and place. If you want to rock climb, you won't go to a huge rock on your first try. The same principle works here. Strong doses from the get-go usually lead to delusions, too.

Many who are into drugs think that DMT is just one more thrill to have and get burned. If you approach it with respect, it could potentially become a medicine for you.

Stay safe 🙏

hello mr northape.

I was doing immensely soul destroying work. I was crying my eyes out, thinking I couldn't do it I couldn't do it. Psychological death, a sort of. I powered through by eating bananas and doing it.

This medicine is not about killing your ego,
This lmfaooo. Noobs need to learn this
but transforming and opening it up.
which I was doing

maybe
you won't go to a huge rock on your first try.
hell id even argue you may never need to climb that huge rock on later tries. Smaller rocks with harder resistance is enough. but not 'enough' in a weak way. Noooooooooooo. as in it will challenge you to your limits, no easy victory for you.
The bigger rock is a pure ego exercise and probably has negative returns. The strain you exert there may make you weaker with nothing to show for it.

The best part? no fractals

You got the message. I like your lighthearted, almost comical attitude. Keep it up and you'll go far ;)

this is what i tell all the people that try mimosa with me. that the heroic dose isnt real because everyone is vastly different, in my personal opinion and what ive observed from others in ceremony is that its all based on your mindset going in because i can get a "breakthrough" on doses that most people would never imagine is possible. for example on 3.5g of mimosa with my brother 4-5 months ago i had a full breakthrough. thats something i really believe in too that taking "big doses" all the time is so counter productive because continuously dosing like that just burns out your mind and makes it where the experience will just either scare you profusely or youll just stop having experiences all together and experience getting kicked out. my current protocol with mimosa is 1-2 big doses every 1 or two months and inbetween have multiple mild-moderate experiences every week.
