Does our level of consciousness influence the insights we receive?

Put what in more simple words? I'm just having conversation, I normally get some pretty horrible responses in real life for asking questions and explaining things how I see them, so i welcome any back and forth.

What i asked boils down to, what if everything youve gained and learned on your journey has been incorrect, and the true nature of it all is something completely different? I dont necessarily think thats the case, but the thread is titled does the level of consciousness effect insight gained, correlating insight with consciousness, but i guess im questioning "what if all of the insight is moot" and "where does that leave your consciousness?"

If you spend a lifetime travelling a path, only to be told or shown, the real path is only visible when wearing the indigo, maroon, and bright blue lenses at the same time (reference to your different colored lenses), what's next? What if there is a true path and we're all obscuring it with our speculations that come from wearing our glasses? Because my red probably isnt the same as your red, just like the sound I hear is likely different than the sound you hear.

Thank you. It was much easier to understand when you put it this way.
I actually agree with you here. Most likely, all we learn has very little to do with Truth.
All our struggles are just to see that we have glasses on. Can we take them off ourselves? Who knows…

Where does that leave your consciousness? I would say Right Here. It's always right here.
To see that there is an awareness always at hand independent of all the views and insights is the path to Truth or Freedom.

I think you answered all your questions yourself. The only puzzling thing here is that the answer is Silence.
Our human mind doesn't take it for the answer and proceeds with thinking and complex ideas.
When we are able to just ask these questions and Be, the mystery would solve itself.

It seems like a pretty innocent question. They even asked if they were missing something. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Sorry. As i said, I have a crappy family dynamic so when im asked a question, they're never simply asking me a question, they're questioning me as a whole so I interpreted his message as coming from a place like "who the f do you think you are" with the word choice and punctuation. It seemed more aggressive than what it really was, I guess.

I wish I could find a way to gain some silence. If its not incessant complex ideas, and I successfully exhaust my brain, I'll start talking out loud to pick up where I left off. Its horrible lol

I think we're all this way. The only difference would be our personal psychology and how it manifests in our lives.
For me, simple things like walking in nature, exercises and some meaningful manual work produce the most silent state.
From what I understand, we can train ourselves to just Be, but I'm still a long way to consistently rest in this state.
Silence is always at hand, but ideas and thoughts are just too compelling. Human mind is insanely interesting 🤣
All the best to you on your Path 🙏

I wonder if thats the big reason Psychedelics are so prevalent in the combat veteran group? Thats how I was introduced to it and the first paragraph of your post is essentially how the first few 15+ grm Psilo sessions felt like I was surviving and then started to thrive in that space.
I'm a part of that group too. It was a long time ago though right? On the other side of the world. But I have violent civilian trauma perpetrated against me later in life, and TBH that left a deeper psychological mark than three years of combat. Interesting how that works.

You could drop me off in hyperspace, drop me off in the roughest part of Harlem or drop me off in the middle of the mountains and I will be fine in all cases.

I also feel that I have an ability to be dropped into some really random, unfamiliar, and maybe even dangerous places, and I'll eventually find my groove.

I guess I'm becoming more experienced every week, you could say. I do feel there is a component to the experience where it meets me where I'm at. It knows my needs, although I may not like what I need. The best medicine often tastes the worst. There's also a random factor to it as well, and I think that exposes just how big hyperspace is. Using the word "big" isn't accurate because it can't be measured. That's just a feeling. Isn't it amazing though?

One thing I'll add is that I got some DMT back in college a little over a decade ago. I held onto that little baggie for so long, wondering, "Should I do it?" Eventually, I tried to use it and failed gloriously with a glass pipe. I think I was a little sad, but maybe also relieved. I told someone, and believed it, "Oh, I think I could feel it a little bit." Hahahahah. Understatement of my life.

Looking back from this point of view, I had SOOOO much growing to do. I needed to love, lose love, be hurt, hurt others, develop a horrible addiction, battle it harder than anything I'd ever battled in my life, overdose countless times, experience deep shame and guilt, eventually overcome the addiction, and finally transform into a completely different and more aware human being. A person of loving kindness.

I think whatever is behind DMT knew I wasn't ready and had a plan to meet me when I was. Silly sounding, huh? Maybe. Maybe not though. ;)

I'm starting to wonder if my consciousness is expanding a little, recently I am finding that I get little snap visualisations when laying in bed, like crystal clear yet usually abstract images that linger a short while before fading back to fuzzy black (Eyes Shut).
As my boss told me when I shared a similar ongoing experience, "lean in."

For me, I get those same flashes, but not very vivid. But what's more prominent is the feeling of "dropping in." It scared me at first.

Its usually after my weed vape in an evening, at bed time I've been purposefully trying to lay there for a while before going to sleep and i seem to get 2 things happening. Initially I laid there just to enjoy the weed feels.

1/ is what I've mentioned above, though the bit in good visual clarity/focus is in the middle of my closed eye visual, lasts a few seconds then goes.

2/ With closed eyes I can see the room, I even go as far as to touch my closed eyelids to check they are indeed closed as I seem to be able to see the dark room and even sometimes the cat walking up the middle of the bed, though sometimes the cat is seen as a fuzzy coloured pattern and I feel like both cats are different colours in my mind-vision!

Feels a bit 'far out man' writing this down.

I never saw you there! :D

Good to know its a thing though, not that it's something that worries me.

The only other times I've had non-psychedelic visuals was during Yoga classes where we'd been doing some simple breath-work. A very vivid purple colour that was more than light coming through closed eyelids and a distinct clear flash of a waterfall and the feeling that the water was hitting me as i was underneath but it wasn't water it was stars or sparks.

15 or so years ago I had similar experiences on ayahuasca where I felt I could see the room with my eyes closed including my cat walking up the middle of the bed. Could've just been my mind filling in the blanks, who knows. Was pretty cool either way and I've read similar reports before.

This is a common thing people report at dark room retreats to from what I remember. Given the amount of weird psychedelic stuff I've encountered sober, and harmala/aya type stuff I've noticed at night as melatonin ramps up, it always makes me wonder about those weird endogenous beta-carbolines

I am not sure if they are open or closed.

THIS... 🥲 I'm experiencing this more and more. Are my eyes closed, my brain filling in the last scene it saw? Is my visual cortex my only “sight tool”? Am I seeing through someone else's eyes? Maybe that other is me too.

I can't feel my eyes, or even “me.” I've forgotten I have them. Does it matter? Did I take too much, lol? Nah.

In the end, I always find my eyes at the apex of that tear about to roll down my cheek as I say thank you.
